In all fairness to Linux Lite, it's not typically difficult.  When you can provide make and model numbers early on, that gives the forum some idea about your hardware specs.  Furthermore, there really are things you requested already in the manual, but like my link in Reply #16 of this thread, they can get overlooked.

As far as not getting a new machine, Dell and HP sell new computers with Linux preinstalled.

I tried the Shift Key and then holding down 'e' last time I got an installation to go all the way through. I edited the last line. But I didn't notice that at the beginning I had put in a whole load of 'eeeeeeeeeeeee's. Which meant the file was corrupted and I couldn't get back in to edit it again!!!!


I am giving up now with the new machines. I might buy one preconfigured, like from System 76, and will check out the Dells, but probably not. Just get an old Lenovo and keep it simple and save $1000 more or less.

I put it back in box for 2 days deciding to bring it back. Then suddenly tonight decided to have one more crack. Read through some of the pages that seemed overly complex a few days ago.

First, edited Grub file (a first) and now new LL3.4 installation boots up - fast.
To effect this, altered a line using 'e' after ESC during bootup, to
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="modprobe.blacklist=i2c_hid"

The Touchscreen doesn't work (which is fine for now)

This time the network/internet is not working well at all. Intermittent.
I used this page to tune up my current (dying) HP which was also intermittent:
lenovo yoga 710 internet problems.
I have a Realtek on that laptop and decided to take a chance since it's dying anyway. It made a huge difference.
But the new Lenovo 710 is not Realtek (I don't think).

It is a Qualcomm Atheros QCA6174 802.11ac.
After that on the lspci readout:
Unassigned Class: [ff00] Realtek Semiconductor RTS5229 PCI Express Card Reader.

I will try to post the lspci output, but the new laptop is busy very slowly downloading Chrome and until finished and set up over there cannot access that output.

I am hoping for help to get this connection working properly. Hopefully now the booting issues are resolved, even if the graphics situation cannot improve much until there are chip updates in a week or so, if I can get a solid connection then will be willing to work with the new machine, which I like.

And I LOVE the way LL looks on this much nicer screen resolution.

I made a mistake about Grubline edit, it was not with 'e'. I went into the Grub using the instructions on the link. Doing it with 'e' is only temporary.
