I be one confused biker here on a Sunday evening.

"Oops, there was a slip up!" means that there are now an additional 4 linux operating systems that TradeMe has banned, so the links are now of course dead. This is getting out of control.

As the creator of LL, do you "own" the rights to it?  (I understand it's free software.)  If you technically own the rights to it, you should be able to distribute it as you wish on whatever media you choose.  This would be the same as MicroSloth.  I'll bet they don't produce the CD/DVDs they put their OSs on.  They own the software so they can sell/give it away as they please.  How is this different?  If YOU own the rights to LL and YOU put it on a thumb drive/CD/DVD, that makes it an original disc.

"Digital content (like games and other software) on original discs."

I had a phone call from Trade Me today. Very encouraging discussion about their Digital Content policy. Hopefully, it can be updated to encompass free software and open source software. Thank you to everyone for their support lately, I really means a lot to me.

Hello!

Kudos to you, Jerry.

As a matter of principle, this is DEFINITELY worth 'going to war over'. I can't speak for anyone else here, but I'm proud of you!

This is obviously the result of some blithering idiot in a low-level position who wants to prove to the world that they 'have a pair'. I'm sure the others who were 'kicked off' are also quite livid about this right about now.

Perhaps the other aggrieved parties have their lawyers involved at this stage. On THIS side of the pond, they'd have a class action suit staring them in the face over all this...

Thanks Jerry for your efforts!!! Smile

Highly appreciated - and unfortunately very necessary with TradeMe and in New Zealand in general Sad

I have heard so many shocking stories about this country from very trustworthy people, it's not funny.
As a good site to get an idea I got recommended:

It must be that good and threatening to the propaganda machine that they more than once tried to attack it/take it down.

I never heard of the TradeMe site before. It doesn't "look" like a legitimate or reputable site.
It has that "robolinux" feel to it, kinda shady/to good to be true. Just my opinion.
I would just let it go, pick your battles wisely. LinuxLite is winning the war in a much larger market !
Good luck with it though, may the outcome be beneficial to you.

Hi technomancer,

Your description made me laugh. That's how a lot of things are in New Zealand - unfortunately.

TradeMe is basically the ebay of New Zealand, the only successful auction platform. As far as I know there used to be even a time when ebay.co.nz was redirected to trademe.co.nz. All attempts to establish an urgently needed competitor have failed so far. And TradeMe takes advantage of it by increasing the prices and limiting/hassling their users with stupid policies, some of them most probably imposed by the government/customs.

They have made this into a matter of principle. After all, liberty demands vigilance.

This was last month, so is this still going on, or have they since seen reason?

The issue seems to be resolved, I think Jerry just forgot to update the forum.
