Since you don't check the forum often, simply click on Notify within your post, and you'll be sent an email whenever someone responds.
There is a printer compatibility list at
http://www.linuxfoundation.org/collabora...GNNRx.dpuf. But it is user generated, so if you don't find your printer there, it may only be because no one has reported it as being compatible. Photosmart sounds more like an HP printer than a Dell product to me, but anyway.
If I were there with you, I would see if a physical connection would work first and then work our way to troubleshooting a network or wireless connection. I don't know how you're currently trying to access the printer. Can you connect it via a USB cable and see if it'll print that way?

appreciate the comments torreydale. I checked the notify me box and will look at those links. You are correct, my printer is a Dell Photo 924 and is hardwired in to my Dimension 310 already, but won't communicate with my printer via the usb port. It worked fine before I installed Linux.

It seems your printer was built for Windows Vista and Dell doesn't support a Linux solution for this printer. There might be some creative solutions out there, though. Some folks think this printer is from another manufacturer and rebranded as Dell.
Does your computer show the printer as a Dell AIO 924? The fact that you've gotten as far as you have (visual confirmation on your screen, but no actual output from the printer) tells me Linux is approximating the driver. In other words, it doesn't have the needed driver, but it thinks your printer is another model, so it applies the driver of that model. Thus, you get partial cooperation, ie. some desktop confirmation, but no response from the printer.
If it's worth your curiosity, you may do a web search on Dell AIO 924 Linux or Dell AIO 924 Ubuntu and see how others have overcome this. Lots of talk out there about this printer on other forums. I just can't access them right now, but I can look later. You can get a head start on me. You don't have to sign up to those other forums to see what's been posted, by the way.

I looked more into this.
This site says the printer is a rebranded Lexmark Z615:
https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3348569
This site says Mac users can get it to print using a Lexmark X2500 driver:
http://forums.macrumors.com/threads/dell...-x.228622/
And here's a driver support site for Lexmark:

If you can find the ppd file for this printer, it seems you might be able to get it to work following this video. Skip to 9:35 and you can stop viewing at 11:20 in. You might be able to extract the ppd file from the Windows driver for that printer using the instructions seen here:
