This may have been asked many times, but I'm unable to find a clear answer.
I can't find a way of listing files using Thunar by filetype or date order (as this makes file management easier). This has been tried on 3 PC's approx specs 2.7GHz twin core processor, 4Gb RAM running LL 5.6. Edit> Select by Pattern does not appear to do this. A general web search suggested that Linux generally does not permit one to list files in this way. Is this correct, or am I missing the obvious or otherwise mistaken?
Please let me know if possible, bearing in mind that I have no knowledge of programming, or the right mindset to comprehend code.

Thunar 1.8.14
Icon view or compact list - click 'view' or right click on some white space in the directory - select 'Arrange Items' and choose sort by ...
Detailed List view - click 'view' - 'configure columns' and check 'date' and 'type' - if necessary drag the headings so you can see them - click in the heading to sort, click in the heading again to change ascending/descending.

Thank you for offering your help. I already have the columns Name, Size, Type and Date Modified checked in the Detailed List View. Sorry I don't understand what you mean by "click in the heading to sort, click in the heading again to change ascending/descending". The columns can be re-arranged in order left to right using the Move Up/Move down buttons, but I can't find how to set the listing in date order or by a specified filetype.

Click the header column to sort - similar to other window managers...

Many thanks for your solution; It's easy when you know how. In Windows the way I did this is very different. I'm relatively new to Linux and wish I had got into it a long time ago.
