How to upgrade from 3.8 to 4.4
#1
==UPDATE==
I've found the series 4 upgrade script and the log file, and here's what I see...

martin@Latitude-E5500:/tmp$ more lite-upgrade.log
[05/20/20 20:27:58] ---------- Linux Lite Upgrade Utility ----------
[05/20/20 20:27:58] Upgrading version:
[05/20/20 20:27:58] Executing upgrades...
[05/20/20 20:27:58] Upgrade failed - /etc/llver is not 4.4

Any tips???

----

Somehow, we've got two "Lite Upgrade" buttons on our laptop. There's one with an icon and one without. For months, I've been clicking on the one with an icon (thinking the other was some weird artifact) and would see the response stating that "You are already running the latest release".

For giggles, I clicked on the other one tonight, and discovered that we're way out-of-date! We've got 3.8 and it's offering 4.4. But the upgrade utility bombs-out, simply saying "Upgrade cancelled".

Is there somewhere I can look for the actual reason for the failure? Or will we need to upgrade one step at a time somehow?

Sorry. Forgot to say we're all up-to-date with updates, too.

If you've got 3.8 I would wonder where you got the software to update to 4.4
We simply don't offer that. You've even been given a corrupt home made ISO or there's something else at play.

What is the output of:

Code:
cat /etc/llver

Code:
apt policy lite-upgrade-series3

Please also screenshot your 2 menu entries for 'Lite Upgrade'.

I'm 99% sure I got this OS from linuxlite.com. I then burnt it to a DVD and installed on here as dual-boot with Windoze.

Her'e s the output you requested...

[tt]martin@Latitude-E5500:~$ cat /etc/llver
Linux Lite 3.8
martin@Latitude-E5500:~$ apt policy lite-upgrade-series3
lite-upgrade-series3:
  Installed: 2.0-0120-linuxlite
  Candidate: 2.0-0120-linuxlite
  Version table:
*** 2.0-0120-linuxlite 500
        500 http://repo.linuxliteos.com/linuxlite citrine/main i386 Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
[/tt]

Cheers

How it got in there, one can only guess. The bottom line is you can't upgrade from Series to Series. I stipulate that in every release announcement. If you want to use Series 4, you'll need to do a fresh install of 4.8

Hi!
On this kind of machine, you can run Linux Lite 5.0. My laptop is a ThinkPad T400 from 2008, with 4 GB RAM Wink
I use LL 5.0 and nothing to complain, really! Smile Jerry is a taugh programmer! Wink
I made the jump from LL 4.8 to LL 5.0 without "sandboxing" on an external HDD. Directly on the main disk.
Good luck! Smile
