Is there the ability to "search" in Linux lite?
#1
I was unsure where to post this question - I was wondering if similar to Mac's (spot light or search light) and even Windows if there an equivalent ability to search for something by name or topic (when you've forgotten the exact title) actually "on" the computer like these other OS's allow you to do.

I have googled and also checked the forum for similar questions, but haven't found anything.

Have you tried to search for "search" in the main menu?

[member=7067]JanetBiggar[/member]  I've never used spotlight so not sure what exactly you mean, but there is a search files facility installed in Linux Lite...  "Accessories/File Search".

This opens the Catfish search program. The cog on the top bar right gives you a few options, even to search not just on file/folder names but also the contents of a file.
On the left of the top bar is a drop down menu for choosing where to search.

Hope this helps Smile

Yes I did try that and it came up with nothing.

However DeepThought what you suggested is EXACTLY what I was looking for - Terrific!  Now I can let the youth who are using the laptops with LL 3.8 know about this tool. Thanks  Big Grin

Helpful tip! Right click any free space from file manager in the menu select "Search here...". Opens the same catfish file search. Can search everywhere from the left up corner "File System"
