trying to back up my dropbox, i have been in the process of downloading the whole contents and would need to save it to an external HD
how can i save it to a HD that will open on a windows machine?

Just copy the file to the hard drive that is formatted in either fat32 or NTFS and it should work in Windows.

FAT32 can be safer (better support) but can't store single files bigger than 4,2GB or 4GIB (in windows) and maximum size for single fat32 partition is 2TIB.
NTFS is easier to break (corrupt) but can store files bigger than 4GIB. You can reformat it with gparted to FAT32 or NTFS but formatting hard drive deletes it contents! Always backup important files! |
