Help with Dual Boot Install on old Acer Desktop
#1
Hoping to breathe new life into an old Acer Desktop (specs at end) I wasn't using and maybe learn me some Linix Lite (LL)...

Where I'm at now:

Disabled Fast Startup, Etcher'd an ISO of the latest version onto a 4Gb USB drive, booted with F12 on restart vs. changing BIOS boot priority. LL came up fine and I selected the Install icon. Got to the dual boot, disk partitioning step, all fine to this point, and realized I didn't check the BIOS Legacy and Secure Boot settings. Backed out of install and restarted, checked BIOS and realized those options don't exist in this Acer 2011 BIOS version. Did a bit more reading of LL Help Manual and found the install issues section. Got to the part asking:

"If you have a 64-bit version of Windows, it could be installed in either BIOS/Legacy-mode or in UEFI-mode; so you will need to investigate further. "

Here's a screen shot of the drive (new to imgur..hope it works). I'm stuck here wondering if I can continue with the Dual Boot install since I can't change the Legacy/Secure Boot settings.

So the first question is can I continue?
Second is when I partition the drive to run alongside Windows 10, how much space should I give to each? This isn't a machine I use regularly.

Thanks for any help....

[size=1em]If you were able to boot the USB and get to it the Live environment - You're GOOD Smile [/size]
[size=1em]If SecureBoot was enabled - you wouldn't see the USB... If it was UEFI (w/ non UEFI LL) it wouldn't boot/launch..[/size]

Code:
"If you have a 64-bit version of Windows, it could be installed in either BIOS/Legacy-mode or in UEFI-mode; so you will need to investigate further. "

[size=1em]The screenshot shows your disk... You'll want to look at Properties of "This PC", System Type will inform 64/32-bit..[/size]
[size=1em]If 64-bit your good with LL 4.x.. If 32-bit, go with LL 3.8 ...[/size]

[size=1em]As for the disk... In the LL installer you can choose "Along Side Windows" for default disk configs or "Something Else" to change disk sizing...[/size]

[size=1em]1) MAKE A BACK UP !!!! Just in case... Your creating partitions and formatting..[/size]
[size=1em]2) Looking at your screenshot - you have PLENTY of room - 700+GB free (you may want to carve it up with Something Else)[/size]
[size=1em]- Leave Windows intact - Look at the manual for installing, I think you need shrink 1st in Windows... [/size]

[size=1em]As for the[/size]
Code:
when I partition the drive to run alongside Windows 10, how much space should I give to each?
[size=1em]Depends really - you have plenty... [/size]
[size=1em]If you do a separate partition for /home or have it reside on "/" (root) and swap - though you may find partitions limits reached as Windows is using 3 partitions..[/size]
[size=1em]LL wont eat as much room as Windows, I have ran in VM's allocating 20gb of disk.. Depends more on how much other data you'll use - Docs/Downloads/Pics etc... [/size]

[size=1em]At least have a root partition "/" (see the label drop down for /) -- if you dont/cant create a /home it will reside on same as /[/size]
[size=1em]Swap -- there is debate, 4gb should suffice, but not a biggie if you can't - should be able to make a swap file afterward if needed... [/size]
