SFTP/SSH problem with Linux Lite 4.0: "welcome messages on non-login shells"
#1
Greetings!

Since upgrading to Linux Lite 4.0, I came across a nasty problem. I used to connect to my home server through FileZilla (SFTP with keyfile), but now I can't, as FileZilla shows no network activity immediately after successfully connecting.

I posted about the problem on the FileZilla forums with some verbose logging information, and the FileZilla author concluded that I "have some faulty shell script installed on the server that displays welcome messages on non-login shells".

To be honest, I have no idea what this could mean. Aside from the port / keyfile related settings and such, I have not changed much of the openssh configuration, nor I have set any kind of welcome message. Could this be related to the info that's now printed in a terminal when it is launched (one of Linux Lite 4.0's new features)?

Any kind of help would be very appreciated! Thank you for reading.

I still haven't found the cause. Anyone?

LL & most Linux distros have always displayed a message in a secure shell, basically so you know where you are. However ** It may be the custom prompt configuration that is the issue. Try using a different default terminal application like lxterminal for one session and see if the problem persists or if you're comfortable enough remove the custom prompt from XFCE terminal. Also try SFTP with Thunar. If any of those attempts work without a problem then uninstall filezilla and reinstall. If that fails the issue is with filezilla and the custom prompt for sure. I use Reminna for SFTP so that I can go back and forth from Secure Shell and VNC if I like to test file changes.
