I recently saw that it came out version 4.0 for alpha and I do not want to lose my files is it possible to wait for 4.0 and do update using sudo apt-get dist-upgrade in linux lite 3.8?
if I do not upgrade to 4.0 I will lose support in 3.8? will the programs update normally? chromium etc etc?

Hello anastiel,

Upgrades can be done within a series.
Example LL 3.2 can be upgraded to LL 3.8, neither can be upgraded to LL 4.0, it needs a fresh install, after you backup your files.

When LL 4 series is released support will continue for LL 3 series until April 2021 -

The programs/softwares installed should continue to be update normally until a time the support ends above as updates repository will close for that series, then after this only manually from software creators release , until when kernel or computers hardware/drivers is not supporting it.

Hi [member=7453]anastiel[/member]

LL 4.0 is not yet available (except by special arrangement for testing purposes).

If you run "sudo apt-get dist-upgrade" you will install the newest versions of all packages you currently have installed. It will not install LL 4.0. You will continue with LL 3.8, so feel free to run the apt-get upgrade, or use the Update Software tool.
