You have the wrong driver, your trying to install the DEBIAN driver, you need the UBUNTU x86 32 bit driver.

I downloaded the Ubuntu 17.10 32bit (i386, is that the right one ?

This time i downloaded the right file and followed the readme and did this:

Quote:  tar xaf imagescan-bundle-ubuntu-16.04-1.3.25.x86.deb.tar.gz
  cd imagescan-bundle-ubuntu-16.04-1.3.25.x86.deb
  ./install.sh

Is the scanner driver now installed ?

No idea, what did it tell you after you typed ./install.sh?
You should have got some confirmation in the terminal if it installed or not once it finished. One way of checking is to look in the Graphics section of your start menu, if Imagescan is there then it's installed it. Load it up and try your scanner.

Seems OK from that. Load up Imagescan or Xsane or other scanning software and try it out. You should have a lot less troublesome experience than me with it being directly connected through USB, setting the scanner up for networking was a right pain in the butt!

Great! The functions of these Epson printers in Linux work brilliantly once setup, I think you'll be happy with the results.  8)
