New to Linux, this is what is stopping me from using it

I wanted to switch to linux a couple of days ago ( from win 7 ) but I could not set some things up.

In win 7 I am using "set custom text size (DPI) of 150%

It works great. Everything is larger, desktop, browser and all text is bigger etc.

I can not find that option here. I also tried a version of Linux Mint cinnamon that has it but the max ( 200% ) is too big and "normal" is too small.

I tried changing the font size and it helps but it is not good enough.

Is there any way to change text DPI in Linux Lite ( or any other linux ) ?

p.s. i do not want to change my resolution.


2. In win 7 I am using autohotkey for some keyboard shortcuts.

I see linux has built in option  for some shortcuts but I can not set what i want.

I want to set:

-  key "end" as a mute key

-  key "pgdn" as "volume down"

-  "pgup" as "volume up"

Linux does not allow that " cant bind that because you can not use keyboard to type " ( some message like that )

Is there any way to achieve that? Some program similar to autohotkey or a way to change it in Linux it self?

That is it. If i could set those two things up I would switch to linux.

a. I would like to install Pot player instead of VCL

b. I would like to use a custom mouse pointer. I wonder if I could use same custom mouse pointer I use in win 7.

c. In win 7 there is a "restore system image" option so I can just return the whole system to the version where everything worked fine.

I assume there is something like that in linux also.

p.s. Where could I find the image that shows when linux lite is loading? The Yellow background with the feather



But it looked better then that one and was not darker at the bottom.

If anything I would like to use that as a desktop background image.

LL uses the XFCE desktop environment, and DPI settings are waiting on its switch to GTK3. That seems to be fairly close, and then there might be a wait for LL to pick up the latest version of XFCE. See this thread, especially post #16.

sure ..type KEYBOARD in the search in the menu ... an app should run with keyboard shortcut section ...

sure .. this one is a little bit tricky for new users .. but you can do it...

1-open terminal (or search in the box in the menu)
2- PotPlayer isn't available for Linux ... if you love it badly I would recommend installing a program called WINE from the lite software (search for it in the menu ) (wine allows you to play some apps from windows)
3-uninstall VLC by copying the following in the terminal
3-1-(sudo apt-get purge vlc) (with no brackets) (restart required)
3-2- (apt-get remove vlc-nox)

linux isn't called Linux if you have a customization and you cant make it

yes, there is SYSTEMBACKUP that comes default with linuxlite ... I didn't use it yet but I already googled it for you  8) 8)

I like pot player too, unfortunately it's not available on Linux and last time I checked it wasn't supported on wine either

Someone has already told you about systemback which is preinstalled on LL and it works great. Simply click on your home key on keyborard and type systemback in the searchbox, it is very easy to use, though it's not the same as restore system on windows since it doesn't use shadow copies, but still a great app. Hope this helps!

I find a DPI setting in (from menu) Settings/Settings Manager/Appearance/Fonts

Its for the desktop. Is that not what you are looking for?

I run a lot of bling like custom mouse pointers on my Linux Lite installs. So yeah. Custom mouse pointers are possible.

For the background, I'm just guessing but I think you are referring to the Linux Lite 3.2 one.
