Hi Jerry

I went to Main menu => Install/Remove Software and after entering my password i was in Synaptic so i clicked on Reload => Mark All Upgrades => Apply

It was when the process was complete that i got the error message.
Hope the helps?

Please use the provided method. Menu, Favorites, Install Updates. Synaptic should be used only for downloading extra software.

I will of course do as you say Jerry, but the way i mentioned in my previous post was the way i have usually taken to ensure that Synaptic was upto date prior to installing software.

Big thanks for taking the time out to help.

Both methods ensure you are up to date, our method has more checks in place.

There is a difference between installing updates to computer and refreshing the list of available software from repositories in Synaptic.  What you're doing is installing updates, which should only be done through LL's dedicated program for that.  To simply make sure that the list of software available for installing through Synaptic is up-to-date all you need to do is hit the "Reload" button in Synaptic (in upper left corner of window).
