I can not change the brighness on by HP Pavilion laptop
#1
Hello.
I cannot change the brightness on my laptop, it is very dark, and i can hardly see what's on the screen.
I have the latest linux lite (I updated it from the previous version via the updater.
My laptop is Hp Pavilion (about nine years old).
The functuion button with the brighten or darken button don't respond (so I cannot change the brightness)

Here what happens when I start my laptop:
The splash screen (the first screen that appears- with the feather on the yellow background) it first appears very bright and after a second it dims down. and that's how I see everything after linux lite is up.

I tried the power settings, I don't find a way to make the screen brighter. Please help.
Thank you.

xbacklight is already installed. Open a terminal and do:

Code:
xbacklight -set 80

or any level between 0 - 100.

Hi,
Thank you.
I've tried xbacklight in the terminal and I get the following line:
No outputs have backlight property

I also tried to edit the grub line 12 to vendor settings (I followed the instructions I found in this forum) I updated the grub, restarted the computer, and it doesn't work.

I was so frustrated that I thought to reinstall a different OS.
So I've tried Xubuntu and linuxlite and puppy from a USB. In puppy the f7 and f8 controls, work. I noticed that in Xubunto and Linux Lite, if I use the Fn F8 while the OS is loading, it works.
So I did the same and restarted my Linux lite OS system and pressed Fn F8 (to brighten the screen) while it loads . And it worked Smile

So now I have a very bright screen (much better than hardly seeing anything on the screen).

I still cannot change the brightness from within the OS. And I did search this forum.

I hope this will help others.
And still I would like to find a more comfortable solution for the screen brightness on my laptop.

Thank you.

I don't use fn keys anymore in XFCE since they have plugins that handle this in XFCE with sliders.
