Indicator plugin white while panal black
#1
I switched to the dark theme in LL and it went well except for the indicator plugin. It is still white. Is there a way to turn it into black. A pic is in this thread for troubleshhoting help.

Yea I find alot of dark themes are difficult to balance. In some cases if you have Ubuntu software center installed the lettering can be white or light grey on a lightgrey or white background. This can make lettering difficult to read.

I find that with most dark themes there is always something that wont be right! Like what I said above and in some cases Firefox search box is white text on white background.

I use 'greybirdclassic' from http://xfce-look.org/content/show.php/Gr...ent=170310 it's not exactly dark theme but I change the background color of the panel to a darker color from the xpanel panel preferences under appearances tab. I gave up on dark themes for a while until I come across something that won't hide letters or make them difficult to read.

Oh if you find something let me know please as I am always on the look for a good dark theme. btw look for 'manjaro simple' as I found that is a pretty close to perfect dark theme I have come across.

Just wanted to add that I use a great deal of xfce4 widgets and most dark themes mess up the look and the function of these. In some cases they fail to show bars and in some cases the colors are set to some color I do not appreciate. Like I said a lot of them don't hold up to my standards.

I use a dark theme BleuFear http://fav.me/d4htkym and Gnome Brave icons (available in Synaptic) with no problems.

Coastie Thanks I went to install it and I'm having an issue

lol

I downloaded it from Git and installed it manually

Ubuntu center lettering is what I find to not agree with most dark themes.

Then there is always the Firefox tabs that go wonky as well.

However it gives a windows10 look to the widgets and it does darken them more. Like I said not many dark themes pan out for what my preference require. It's the one thing I just can't get 100% perfect.

Another way it sometimes works is changing the panel preferences to not use the system theme for it's background colour.
That's how I got around some things not displaying to my liking with different themes.
On the Appearance tab set the background style to solid colour, select desired colour.

Only other things I can think of to try would be removing the indicator plugin from the panel & then adding it again.
Maybe try creating a new panel with the dark theme already in use instead of switching from light to dark with the same panel.
Creating a background image & using that on the panel.
Combinations of the above.
Interesting that using a solid colour didn't sort it, I can't remember if I had to create a new panel to get it to work, or whether I just kept playing with themes until I got one that made the indicator background dark like I wanted.
But I do remember having to play around with things to get it to go dark as I wasn't too impressed with it staying white & the rest of the panel being dark.
Ambiance-Dark style is the one in use on my panel pics above.

Have any luck with this Liamjake?

I've just recently had a similar issue when making background images to use for my own panel.
I wanted to create a glossy dark panel image & discovered when doing so the indicator, notification area & clock backgrounds seem to mess with how the panel is displayed.

The left of the panel is fine, but the right gets messed up behind the plugins.
It appears the panel is displayed from the left hand end in each plugin where it should be showing the right hand end of the panel which is basically a mirror image of the dark section at the left hand end.
Where ever the plugin is put the panel image behind it gets messed up.

What I ended up doing was creating panel images without darker/different ends & they seem to display ok, the same display bug is happening but it's hardly noticable.

This one the left hand end's top is slightly darker than the right & it can be seen where it changes behind the plugins.

And this one which I'm happy with I made the brightness consistant all the way along & it's not noticable at all.

The images:

Bottom one is the best I think.
To get them to look right I found it pays to resize them to whatever size the panel is.
I made them to suit my panel width & height which is 1280x72.
If the image height is lower than the panel height they get layered to make up the difference, if the image height is higher than the panel height then whatever is greater than the number of pixels of panel height won't be shown  8)

EDIT: Forgot to mention, using these in a vertical panel they might need to be rotated 90 degrees & resized etc. otherwise they'll be displayed horizontally layered for the height of the panel.
