Slimjet browser won't open
#1
I've been using Slimjet, a Chromium derivative, on LL x64 for several months with very few and minor problems. Suddenly, with version 7.0.3, the program won't open. I've tried every version since (including today's 7.0.7) with the same results. So I end up going back to 7.0.1, which works fine.

The Slimjet dev told me to use the tar.bz installer, but that didn't go well either (I don't really know what I'm doing, which could be the problem). So I'm stuck.

I set up a virtual box of LL 2.8 x32 (the only bittage I can run on this machine in virtual box), and there Slimjet ran perfectly. So obviously something's wrong with this install. I can sit this out until LL 3.0 comes out and do a fresh install, but I'd rather nail it now, the browser being so important.

I noticed that when I fire up Slimjet several processes open for a couple of seconds and then close. The are named systemd-udevd. Any thoughts on this would be welcome. Thanks.

Hi paul1149,

Did you try Slimjet from scratch in your current system, i.e. did you rename (much better than delete Smile ) the configuration folder and try to start Slimjet?

If you haven't changed the default location of the folder "slimjet" you'll find it in your home directory in the hidden folder ".config":

Code:
/home/<your_user_name>/.config/slimjet

Thanks for those thoughts. I renamed the profile I had been trying to launch, which is Profile 3, and when starting Slimjet it recreated Profile 3, but still didn't open. So evidently the problem is not profile related. I also have another profile I use less often, and it too doesn't open, which I take to be a confirmation that the problem is elsewhere.

Thanks,
Paul

Hi Paul,

So why not trying one level higher, starting with a completely new configuration for Slimjet itself, not only with a new profile used by Slimjet?

Not much to lose Smile

Wow, that was a brilliant idea. Instant success! Now I guess I'll start adding back the profiles until either it crashes again or I've got most of the restoration complete. Thanks much. I'll let you know how successful this is.

Awesome. I added the profiles back and it seems all the personalization is restored. This was MUCH easier than I thought it was going to be. Thanks so much, much appreciated!
