Linux Lite does not see my wi-fi. Slitaz, Watt os, Knoppix everything else does.

I am ready to use Lite as my default system but it will not see my wi-fi. I have installed all up-dates using my wired connection but this will not do for regular use. I have searched for a solution and found none. I cannot waste endless time on this mystery so hopefully someone can at least suggest something. I repeat Every other Linux distro works seamlessly as does XP on both my desktop and laptop but Lite will have neither. Needs a better Guru than me.

Thanks for the rapid response. the laptop is downstairs and I am writing this on my desktop which has a connection but that is still winXP. My laptop is fujitsu amilo A 1630.
Info revealed is:
CPU single core amd athlon 64 3400 clocked at 800 mhz.
Kernel 3.13.0..24 generic x86 _64
Up -1 min
Mem -248.2/993.9mb
HDD 36.8gb (10.3% used)
Procs =147cl
Hope this is what you need.
All a mystery because smae laptop finds my PlusNet and other networks immediately and I can connect without a problem. This includes knoppix, slitaz, WattOS and other Linux as well as Windows. I'm baffled and on the point of giving in even though Lite is just what I've been looking for.

Also. Just for info purposes. To make sure the "fujitsu amilo A 1630" wireless hotkey has not turned off wireless or wireless is not turned off in bios. Do a rfkill list all in terminal and post results.

should just round out what info is needed for other members to respond to your issue. I know of one linux user in Texas who owns fujitsu laptops and swears by them. But they can be tricky devils (according to Ted).

As a general rule of thumb, wi-fi adapters not supported by the kernel are Broadcom units. Different Broadcom models load different proprietary firmware drivers, so that's why we need more specific information about exactly which one you're using.

Distro folks aren't supposed to, but some of them have went ahead and built Broadcom support into their kernels anyway. I imagine that the LL development team would rather stay out of hot water with Broadcom by honoring their requests to not add native support for these units to their kernel...

I am just a bit confused by some of the suggestions as to possible causes of the problem. If my wireless hardware is working OK with other Linux distributions and with Windows then one thinks that it should work with Lite. Frt example things like BIOS settings and wireless switch would seem to have universal effect what ever the programme. I am just about brand new to these things so my thinking may well be faulty.  Just thought I would see what you chaps think.

Each Distro is cooked different though made from the same animal.

Example. My AntiX 15 Beta 1 testing install does not have any Systemd in it. Even when I dist-upgrade.
My older AntiX 13.2 install that is current through dist-upgrade has Systemd all through it.

See. Same distro. Different releases. Different recipes.
I am trying to keep this as simple as possible.

It is like People. You have this big family where everyone has the same parent.
But the off spring you hire for a task approach the job differently according to their
own personalities. Same but different.

So different hardware. Interacting with different software. Sometimes the results are different.
Because Computers are complicated things. Especially when you are installing operating systems.

That was why I posted the commands above to see what is going on with your laptop.
Because I am on the Mexican Border.
So I am not standing next to you to see what is going on.

Good luck with that - I'm still using Linux Lite Amethyst which includes the Broadcom BCM4318 driver (works 100% for me) - I've tried to install a newer version of Lite and searched on how to manually install the driver since it's no longer included and I just can't get it to work based on instructions found around the net.  There are still a few distros out there which still include it tho... I just happen to like LLite  :-\

Sir, if things were only that simple... Hardware switches are just that - hardware. Were this firmware in the BIOS, this would be a non-issue. Sadly, the BIOS is too small to hold the added code. As for 'faulty thoughts', I have more than a few of those MYSELF!

We REALLY *WOULD* like to help you both out with this, so that you can upgrade to 2.X with a minimum of grief. If you (and Dart) will work with us a little, we can most likely get this straightened out for the both of you rather quickly, as we have for many others before.

Some of what's mentioned in the link does not apply to Linux Lite, so just enter the aforementioned command and stop there, and we can move on once we know what it tells us. Personally, I think their answer is more complicated that it needs to be...

But I still say we need more facts like the outputs of terminal commands before proceeding to trouble shoot this issue.
