[SOLVED] Lunatic is having problems booting after installing

I've always had my own web space hosted by an old friend to dump stuff at but he started jerking me off so I stopped it.

I started using imgur and it's OK for pics so I've started uploading all the little pics I post up there.

I've got a visual basic app a friend wrote that will import all the file names in a folder into a data base, you give them tags in the dbase and supply a url for them and it will then write a web page with the pics all catagorized and displayed with the url to paste into a forum. I tend to avoid posting big pics as they bulk up the forum page but in general the reaction is good and it doesn't load the forum server.

I've put off making this post for weeks while I've been trying different things on the one machine, the odd part is I already have it installed on the machine so it was installing once but might have been an earlier version, can I download the previous release from anywhere?

Unless you have a better idea?
I've got to go out for a bit but when I get back I'll disconnect all but one drive, give it a new partition table and let the installer do an automatic partition business as I never normally do that I always prepare the partitions myself.

Another oddity that might be relavant is that with Voyager 14.04 neither saline-backup or grub-doctor list the partitions.


Also grub2 is buggy it gives you duplicate entries
I use this in etc/default/grub to remove some of the clutter

That was the reason I asked the questions I did in last post.  But you have not answered those questions, so not sure if that's the problem or not.

If you have LL installed with any other distro, make sure LL is the one in charge of booting.

If you have 2 different LL's installed and one is 2.0 or above and other is 1.08 or below, have the newest one in charge of booting.

If you have 2 LL's that are both 2.0 or above, then it will be harder to fix.  What will happen is that the one in charge of booting will boot, but the other one won't.  Here is Jerry's post explaining what tweak he made to grub that is cause of problem.  Around the time of those posts I briefly tried to reverse that change, but had no luck getting it to work.  Poster under Jerry's post says he solved problem by making a custom menu entry.  If you must have 2 LL's installed, maybe you could try that.

Cheers friend, everything makes sense now,

I put a decktop together this morning first of all with a 80 GB HDD with win7 sharing with LL which installed and booted no problem, then I added a data drive with no problems but then I installed another drive and installed LL on it with it's grub on its MBR which really screwed things up.

I'll have a play with that set up soon and see if I can bodge something.

I completely agree with Gerry's aims, the grub2 menu really hacks me off big time, I always add this line to get rid of the "Advanced" line which no newcomer is ever going to use.

On a 1980x1080 display the text is barely readable, hidious and unfriendly

What possible use is this to a newcomer, it's just another line of clutter the lazy geeks needed and haven't removed just the same as the "Advanced" cr*p line, we need to reclaim our once very readable, user friendly menu back from the techies.

I generaly do this

GRUB_DISTRIBUTOR="lite"

But I'd like to have "sda4" etc  at the end of the menu line.
