How to update from 3.6 to 7 - frank4360 - 07-06-2024 Hello I installed Linux Lite quite some time ago on a friend's computer - version 3.6 according to the system report. No updates have been applied since and I have now been asked to sort out the problems she has been getting recently. The Install Updates option on the Menu says the system is up to date, which it certainly is not. I am quite happy with using the terminal and I could simply re-install version 7, but I wondered if there is a GUI method that I could explain to my friend? Thanks for any suggestions. The system IS up to date. You are ignoring a fact: LL 3.6 reached its end of life. See the roadmap: series 3.x, "End of Support April 2021" 2. Upgrade. There is no path to UPGRADE from a major version to another. You need to install from a new ISO. The installation process, is graphical. All you need to do is follow the on-screen guidance. Please open a Terminal and type: Code: inxi -c 0 -ACdGMNSz Then copy the output and paste it into a new post. The details will help us see if the upgrade is supported by the machine configuration. Best regards, Șerban. Re: How to update from 3.6 to 7 - frank4360 - 07-06-2024 Thanks for that. Sorry, I'm a newbie, do I understand correctly that this is also relevant for version 6.6, that is, from version 6.6 you can also switch to 7.0 without completely reinstalling the system? Upgrading Linux Lite within a series (for example from 6.4 to 6.6) does not require installation from USB/disk. The mechanism is fully supported and requires just a few clicks to initiate the process. 6.6 is the last release in series 6 and will remain supported until mid 2027. There is no equivalent, supported mechanism to upgrade Linux Lite between series. The recommendation when moving from series to series (for example from 6.6 to 7.0) is a fresh installation of 7.0 from USB/disk.
