Reading package lists...
E: The repository 'http://archive.canonical.com noble Release' does not have a Release file.

Furthermore, I can't access the virtual keyboard, I need it to write in Greek because the letters of the Greek alphabet are different from the Roman letters we use on Western keyboards.

Re: Update error log and virtual keyboard - stevef - 06-26-2024

One of the repositories on configured on your system (http://archive.canonical.com/) doesn't have any software for your system at the moment.
This is stopping the update/upgrade process from running.
It may be a temporary issue and get sorted out at the repository end and update/upgrading will just work again.

If it persists over a few days you can try to suspend this repository to allow the update/upgrade to run ignoring the repository..

Click Menu and begin typing 'Software' into the text search box.
When you see 'Software & Updates' click on it.
On the window that opens check the tabs in turn looking for an exact match for the entry.
If you find it you can 'uncheck' the entry.
You may need to enter your password to save the change.

This is only a temporary workaround to allow updates to work.
At some stage you will need to go back the re-enable the repository.

It would be interesting to find out how and why this repository got added to your system.
Suspects would be packages you've recently added - anything after the update/upgrade was successfully run.
If you know what caused the repository to get added please post back

If nothing comes to mind, checking the package manager might show something interesting.
Click Menu  and begin typing 'Package' into the text search box.
When you see 'Package Manager' click on it.
Enter your password if asked.
In the Window that opens, click 'Origin' in the lower left section.
Review the list of sources that should appear in the upper left looking for archive.canonical.com and click on it
The upper right section should now show packages just from that repository.

Post back anything that is installed

For the virtual keyboard can you provide a bit more information ?

You need to disable it. It lacks the appropriate version for Linux Lite 7.0 (AKA Ubuntu Noble).

I never used a virtual keyboard. When I was in Greece, I used a Greek/US Keyboard and added three layouts (GR, EN, RO).
And yes, I know the layouts are very different from the latin characters. This is due to alphabetical order in Greek and the frequency of use of those characters, which is different from language to language.
Maybe you should buy a Greek keyboard. The Greek layout is very different from any other EU language and will be very difficult to remember. Even if 50% of the characters are in the same position as in US or other layout, there are specific chars that are placed differently.
This is what I found:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/116160602856?chn=ps&_ul=GB&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=710-170020-548110-7&mkcid=2&itemid=116160602856&targetid=293946777986&device=c&mktype=pla&googleloc=1011846&poi=&campaignid=20787991654&mkgroupid=157350414922&rlsatarget=pla-293946777986&abcId=&merchantid=667762656&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjw-O6zBhASEiwAOHeGxTnP4wxPU4OsxWalUi1KGIJEMZHUxzInhv7TH1ZkOWV5QfHERsiVIxoCy-cQAvD_BwE

Aside those considerations, I dug a little on my computer.
If this is what you need, here it is a sample:

All you need to do is open a Terminal and type:

Code:
onboard

As you can see in the screenshot, the default layout is RO (Romanian is my primary...).
I assume that if you add a Greek layout and set it as default, you will get the layout on the virtual keyboard.
Unfortunately, besides the layout, I can't figure out how to use it in conjunction with the physical keyboard. How do you trigger "Ctrl+Alt+T" (Terminal), for one?
I have only one mouse and one pointer...
You can ignore my opinions if all you need is to see the layout.
Further more, if it suits you, you can add a launcher in the taskbar, place it besides the keyboard layout applet and have the onboard launcher at hand.

Best regards, Șerban.

Is it mandatory?
Many PPAs issue the RSA1024 security error, which in turn break the update. I solved that, updating through Terminal, which works, even if the warning still remains.
As far as I can see, the client is already available in the default installation: transmission-gtk
Further more, another client, qbittorrent (bittorrent client based on libtorrent-rasterbar with a Qt5 GUI) is available through Synaptic PM.
So, what is the special need that is provided ONLY by this PPA?
I used many times Transmission to download various ISO images (Lite, for one) and i never had trouble downloading whatever.
Or maybe, it is only the idea of "The latest & the greatest" that it solves?

Best regards, Șerban.

PS: Have you checked the PPA?
Google, labels it as "Not Secure".

Quote:Is it Mandatory?

The qbittorrent is not mandatory.
There may be a question about using it or alternatives but that needs a new thread.

There is no evidence in the log provided in this thread which indicates qbittorrent needs to be disabled to allow the update/upgrade to run.  The actual reported update/upgrade errors need to be addressed in this topic.

Re: Update error log and virtual keyboard - trinidad - 06-26-2024

The line: "http://archive.canonical.com noble Release" is the problem and whatever was installed to the system from this partner repository. Ubuntu 24 no longer provides partner repositories. Remove it from your listed repositories. Some software (not LL default) may have update errors because of this change in partner policy but updates for them may be available with a search.

I managed to update the system, but now I have a problem with the windows, when the top right part where it says _, square and x is open, it's not working, I can only close the tabs with the ctrl+q command, I can't even minimize them. -.

Some tabs don't even show the _, square and x

About the canonical folder, I think I tried to install some file that was originally made for another type of Linux, it could be for some version of Ubuntu perhaps, I tried to install emudeck resently, in addition I installed qbittorrent, maybe one of these programs had something in the system is broken

Regarding the virtual keyboard, I installed a version of the Greek keyboard that I can use on the computer just by switching, but as the alphabet is completely different and the layout too, I would like to activate the virtual keyboard just to know the position of each letter without necessarily buying a new keyboard with Greek letters. The problem is that the virtual keyboard doesn't appear when I try to open it

I tried to take a screenshot of the screen to post here in the post but I couldn't, I'm still learning how to use the forum.

I can't use a version of qbittorrent compatible with Linux Lite 7.0?
I was able to use it normally, I hadn't noticed any problems other than not being able to update the system.

I followed the advice of the colleague who responded to this post and disabled the canonical folder and was able to update normally, but now I can't close the tabs that are open, in the top right corner where we have _, square and x when clicking with the mouse nothing happens.

Regarding the virtual keyboard, when opening the terminal I am unable to write, the terminal opens, but does not respond to any keyboard commands, I can only open and close it, but even before this problem occurred the virtual keyboard would not open, I did not post a post before on the forum because I was still able to use the computer normally even without using the virtual keyboard, but now after the update I came across this new problem with the tabs, I can only close the tabs now with the command ctrl+q, it is not possible to minimize the tabs.

I would like to post a screenshot of what is happening but I don't know how to do that yet here on the forum.

Good.

Did you try the Package Manager and options method to try to work out which application had set up the canonical repository ?

Quote:now I have a problem with the windows, when the top right part where it says _, square and x is open, it's not working, I can only close the tabs with the ctrl+q command, I can't even minimize them. -.
It may be worth opening a new thread to discuss this.

Quote:I tried to take a screenshot of the screen to post here in the post but I couldn't, I'm still learning how to use the forum.
To take a screen shot press 'Prt Scr' or 'Print Screen' on your keyboard - usually on the top row to the right of the Function Keys.
In the window that opens set a short delay and choose a region to capture, then click ok

During the delay, ensure the region you chose is displayed and then wait.
After the delay has elapsed you should be shown a preview and some options.

If the preview looks right choose the 'save' option and click 'ok' which will take you through a save process.
It the preview isn't right click 'back' to try again.

You should find the screenshot file in your home Pictures directory.
Check it to ensure it doesn't show anything private (edit if necessary) and then post it to the forum using imgur by following the instructions in
https://www.freecinema2022.gq/forums/introductions/forum-posting-guidelines/

Quote:The problem is that the virtual keyboard doesn't appear when I try to open it
There have been reproducible reports of the onscreen keyboard appearing on screen as expected but then closing as soon as you move the mouse over it.
Is this is what is happening for you ?
If you need a visual reminder of the key positioning perhaps getting an image of the Greek layout and using it as your wallpaper could work for you.
If you set the image up as a background on Workspace 2, you could just switch to that to view it and switch back to work.
Again, a new thread might reduce confusion.
