Network connection problems - waynebob - 09-24-2014

I lost my wifi on my Dell Inspiron 1501 yesterday, fooled around a bit then installed Mint 17 64 bit. No wifi on it and this morning no ethernet either. The Mint and Ubuntu forums are all reporting problems with connectivity due to updates.
Mint 17 Cinnamon is much slower than Linux Lite. Will be reinstalling Lite. Smile

It's due to the Xfce environment that Linux Lite is lighter and less resource-hungry.

Also, in my opinion, you can update your system, for example, once per month because new packages have to mature enough and the first bugs will be corrected.

What wireless card and ethernet cards are you running in that Dell?

Please post the information so we can help you get connected again.

There is a common issue, seems to be, with the Broadcom modems. Information is in the forum on how to correct it.

Here is the info on my network card. When I saw that other Distros were having the same problems I figured I would just wait till it was sorted out and then allow the new and improved updates. I had installed Mint 17 Cinnamon on this laptop just to try it but this poor old Dell with only 2 gigs and a AMD Turion 64x2 is kind of slow. I reinstalled Lite 2.0 and all is fine (till I do the update). I am a Linux newbie/ distro hopper but I am also 65 years old and not really interested in learning programming, just playing with an operating system that is user friendly and reliable. Linux Lite 2.0 sure seems to fit the bill. Thanks to all you hard working guys, Wayne.
Oops, is waiting a while till the dust settles on this network problem then allowing updates a good plan or should I do the workaround fix?
