Picture/image files won't open - rbdflyboy - 08-27-2014 My picture/image files won't open on the desktop unless with an application. So which application opens picture/image files directly on the desktop? Tried gnome-open as a custom command and that didn't work. Is there a custom command that will work? Drag and drop either does not work or does not exist? Re: Picture/image files won't open - Valtam - 08-27-2014 Drag and drop works fine, I just did it here. Then I just double clicked on the image file on the Desktop and it opened with Image Viewer. Re: Picture/image files won't open - Scott(0) - 08-27-2014 Hi Rbdflyboy. I was able to do this successfully too with a png and jpg file on the desktop. Image viewer (aka Ristretto) opened the file by double clicking or I could select both, right click, and choose open all. When right clicking the file on desktop, the drop down menu doesn't contain "open all" option. How does one add this option in the right click drop down menu? The purpose here is to decorate my desktop with some really cool pics that were download and edited. Installed Screenlets, added a framed drag and drop box to the desktop, dragged the file into the box and released it in the box...nothing...no pic in the box. At a loss for what to try next? Thank You both for your time and replying. Well, I'm certainly not very helpful . At least the post will remain so maybe someone will come along with better information. ~Scott Re: Picture/image files won't open - rbdflyboy - 08-28-2014 Yes, "open all" works when two pics are selected, they each open in an application each in their own window, not on the desktop. Can you open a pic file and see it on the desktop without the use of an application? Found a cool workaround for Adding a Custom Action in xfce Thunar File manager: Resize Images then email them. Joined the xfce mailing list to see if they can help me change code correctly to use as Resize Images then Send opened to desktop. Have started the workaround. It also leaves the originals intact. Thanks again. Re: Picture/image files won't open - Valtam - 08-28-2014 (08-28-2014, 03:36 AM)rbdflyboy link Wrote: Can you open a pic file and see it on the desktop without the use of an application? Right click, Set as wallpaper. Is that what you mean? Is this an example of what you're asking (the window the blue arrow is pointing to)? The screenshot comes from this video. In the video the "picture-window" is like a slide show displaying different car pictures. http://youtu.be/S0ukqnuEdbw Re: Picture/image files won't open - rbdflyboy - 08-28-2014 (08-28-2014, 04:19 AM)Valtam link Wrote: [quote author=rbdflyboy link=topic=802.msg4438#msg4438 date=1409197002] Right click, Set as wallpaper. Can see now one must crate a new wallpaper in layers and install it. Still will try the xfce Additional Commands route, could save some time not having to create a new wallpaper for every change. Thanks again. Can add it in later, maybe with a different theme. |
