Linux Lite for old Netbook - E. Ber - 02-28-2021 Hello dear community, I have a little problem. I'm quite new to the Linux world and am increasingly fascinated by it. I have so far tried Linux Mint and Ubuntu but two of my "normal computer" and went without a hitch. For a long time I leave in the closet a very old netbook from Acer (Asprire One KAV60), who had Winxp it. The computer was for a long time no longer be used due to the lack of updates, etc., and it has been mega slow, so I decided one of the Linux versions weak computer to install it. This laptop has the following features: Code: -System: Host: linux Kernel: 4.4.0-112-generic i686 (32 bit gcc: 5.4.0) Desktop: Xfce 4.12.3 (Gtk 2.24.28) 761 / 5000 Übersetzungsergebnisse I have so far tried three versions on the 32bit "scrap computers" installed: 1) Linux Mint: I found it super nice, but the computer was very slow and unusable 2) Lubuntu: I did not find so beautiful from the graphics rather, also the computer was still running a little slow 3) Linux Lite: so far my favorite for the PC, but unfortunately the installation crashes at some point and it just doesn't work = ( Does any of you have experience in this regard and can recommend something useful to save this little PC? I might want to sell it as it works or give it away, maybe a grandpa or child can be happy to use it for school, for social media or for emails. Thanks in advance ![]() Re: Linux Lite for old Netbook - Moltke - 02-28-2021 Which Linux Lite version did you try? I guess must be last 32bit which is 3.8. Linux Lite's great but if it doesn't work for you, then maybe you should try another one https://itsfoss.com/lightweight-linux-beginners/ Hope this helps! ![]() Re: Linux Lite for old Netbook - trinidad - 02-28-2021 Slax can be a lot of fun for newbies once you get past the installation. Probably one of the easiest to use as well, and generally forgiving. https://www.slax.org/ Linux Lite 3.x series 32bit should run on your machine, though you may have to do some tuning. (connect to the Internet during installation with ethernet) I believe there are users here who run it with old Atom CPUs. Check the hardware database. The best results and security support on this old machine would probably come with Debian non-free net install, but the learning curve is steeper and you should begin with minimal installation adding Xorg and other software with aptitude as you go from the terminal. I wouldn't bother with Tiny Core. TC Re: Linux Lite for old Netbook - E. Ber - 02-28-2021 Thank you guys for your Answers. Just to let you all know, at the End of the day it worked well with L.Mint LXDE 32 b. Re: Linux Lite for old Netbook - firenice03 - 02-28-2021 I have an Atom N270 in my netbook mini still running LL3.2 works for I needed... Thou not used much it does work fine. Wish I could bump the hardware a bit.. LL3.x was the last of the 32 bit.. It should run fine on what you have.... |
