"Remove" GRUB from startup? - eikelein - 11-05-2020 Installed LL 5.2 All fine and good BUT on EVERY startup I get a black full screen with some for me irrelevant text about editing ending in a terminal input prompt: grub> I type EXIT and the system resumes booting normally AFTER a re-boot. I have not found anything anywhere about this behavior. ALL my customers are retirement age or older and all consider themselves computer illiterate; I can not ask them to "just type exit", they want it to just work and I think that's understandable. Since I often recommend and "resurrect" older PC's with Linux Lite I kind'a need a solution to avoid that grub> prompt completely. Can anyone please help with a link or direct advice?TIAeikelein Re: "Remove" GRUB from startup? - stevef - 11-05-2020 The grub version number and the text before the grub prompt might help diagnose what the problem is. Is it the grub error message part of which reads "minimal BASH like line editing is supported" ? If so, google found plenty of articles about this with suggested fixes. https://itsfoss.com/fix-minimal-bash-line-editing-supported-grub-error-linux/ https://www.geeksforgeeks.org/how-to-fix-minimal-bash-like-line-editing-is-supported-grub-error-in-linux/ https://www.linux.com/training-tutorials/how-rescue-non-booting-grub-2-linux/ However if grub is confused about boot partitions right after a new install it may be quicker to re-install following the instructions. Take particular care around the BIOS EFI choices. Hope this helps |
