Linux Lite 5.0 : i'm looking for a portable email client, heres why, - kissbaby3 - 06-30-2020

my desktop PC upstairs is a 64bit , i have linux lite 5.0 64bit. its not linux, its my power switch that is the problem.

my problem is a mechanical  problem with the power button that turns the pc on, ha ha , i have to reach inside the pc with one hand and gently push forward with one finger and press the power button with the other finger on the front, lol, i made a funny video of it , but have yet to upload it. in the mean time i either need to replace the switch(i think thats what one calls it) if its replaceable, or buy a new desktop PC.

this is why i am looking for a portable email client, that works from a USB only,
for example "thunderbird portable",
https://portableapps.com/apps/internet/thunderbird_portable

-----
the question is , what portable email client you suggest i try ?.
i dont want to use the thunderbird email client already installed with this linux lite, for security reasons, in case the method i am using to power the pc on every morning no longer works (i turn the pc off before i go to bed)

Replacing the power switch button isn't that difficult. Also, you could get a second hand case and move your pc to that one. Regarding portable apps, I used to use this https://portableapps.com/ mind you I used on windows so not sure whether it works on Linux, in fact I just check on that webpage and it works via wine, however, you can use Linux Lite with persistence https://www.freecinema2022.gq/manual/tutorials.html#usbpers this will allow you to carry your system wherever you go in a USB stick, not only an e-mail client but the whole OS.

Hope this helps! Smile

I do not know if this is an option but you could grab a deb of the email client you want to use and install it on a live version anytime you need to use it. I would put it on the same flash drive or even a different one if you need it. I personally do not use email clients and use web based but everyone has an opinion on it.

Here are a few that you can try:

Not all of them use snap, which is another option if you prefer.

More so on a workaround...
You say desktop, and depending on age/setup...if you have a reset switch, you maybe able swap it to the power input/plug on the board... Pressing reset would power on...
No more reset.... I may have used this trick a time in the past.... but I dont recall model/set up...
If it's not keyed to fit a specific...

Here is how to know. If we provide it and it is installed and you are having problems with it, it's a Support issue. If you are asking a question, or you need help with something we don't provide, it is not a Support thread.

alot of good suggestions, thank you every one, when i have time, i will investigate the possibility of fixing the power button/switch, i am curious if i can get it fixed , i was never really happy with this PC.

installing linux lite onto a usb stick of some kind could be fun, i will have to read up on that.
how big a usb or flash drive(so many names for the same thing) should i buy ?.
