Linux Lite 4.4 RC1 Released - Valtam - 02-27-2019

Release Announcement

Linux Lite 4.4 RC1 is now available for testing.

Yes, that's right, RC1. We have moved off the Beta build model to RC releases as these more accurately reflect the build quality of our pre-Final images.
Linux Lite 4.4 Final will be released 1st April, 2019 New Zealand time.

Changes:

Moved from Betas to RC releases. The RC releases Build number is the date of the actual ISO build eg. Build 24022019 - 24th February 2019. The RC information and Build number will only appear on the default wallpaper for that release, Login screen and the Live Boot screen. The positioning of the text is such that it allows room for desktop widgets like Conky and Lite Widget to appear uncluttered on the right. Finals will not have any build information on the default wallpaper.

Updated the Papirus icon theme to the latest release.

Sound Juicer CD ripper has now been added to Lite Software. To get rip-to-mp3 support, Sound Juicer will also install the Restricted Extras package.

Volume level - the double level volume bug has been eliminated.

Removed all references to Google+ as that service is due to close down on April 2nd 2019.

We have moved from Sourceforge distributed servers to OSDN as OSDN will help to finance our project. Their systems and mirror choices are virtually similar.

[member=2]Jerry[/member],

I love the smell of a release candidate in the morning (inspired by a quote from "Apocalypse Now").  I see Sound Juicer is being added.  I think I've already ripped all the CDs I have, except the Christmas ones.  I used Asunder at the time.  There's usually a reason for everything.  How did you make the Sound Juicer choice?  Was it based on personal familiarity, or is it just considered better?

The interface says it all. Looks like grandma designed it (respectfully) and that's exactly what I always look for, dumbed down basic.

It's faster than before!  That's very good.  I worry about all those PPAs in it though... dangerous for newbies, isn't it?

I'm not a PPA fan either. What we do have, is thoughtfully selected.

Re: Linux Lite 4.4 RC1 Released - tek10 - 03-05-2019

Test results for 4.4 RC1. Used dd to write to a usb stick. Live boot was quite long, almost 2 minutes. Everything worked running live, so I proceeded with the first of two installs.

I had a testing desktop system running LL 4.2 using a separate home partition. Using “Something else” I installed 4.4 on two existing partitions, formatting root and not formatting home. Grub was installed to sda. This was a dual boot install with Debian testing running Plasma. Install was fine with my settings and home data retained as expected. Grub looked good. After about an hour of testing, everything I tried looked good.

Second install was to the same two partitions, with both getting formatted for a clean install.

Ran updates, completed some basic setting adjustments and rebooted. Start up was 36 seconds.

Very happy with the default look but made a bunch of changes to play with the settings and all worked well. Installed some apps from Synaptic and Lite Software. No problems. Installed Etcher from direct download. No problem.

Transferred a bunch of files of various types form a data usb stick. All went quickly and the files opened with expected default programs.

For the past three days, I’ve set 4.4 up as I would my production system, used it for several hours and all is working flawlessly. I’ll work it some more but as far as I’m concerned it’s ready to go.

The test system is a home build desktop with an AMD A10-5800K, 8GB RAM, a hybrid hdd, and uses Ethernet for Internet connection. Test printer is an HP Officejet All-in-one.

Nice work Jerry! 4.4 will be a very good release!
