Thanks, Valtam!

My new netbook has to go back to Dell for repair in a couple of days, but will try this out on it as soon as they send it back to me. Trying to figure out how to do this has been what's keeping me from installing Lite on it...

8) Great video/information source. Thanks.

@Valtam,

I think I've asked this before, but can't remember the answer.  Is the LL install ISO actually missing something needed for UEFI/EFI installations?

Reason I ask is because while helping someone on this post, it was revealed that the live LL disk could be booted in EFI mode.

That person ended up installing in Legacy mode, but my suspicion is that if LL can boot in EFI mode, it can be installed that way too.  (That's what I don't know for sure and can't test myself because I don't have a UEFI machine.)  The video you posted is very good and gives a lot of info on how to convert from Legacy to EFI mode installation, but all of that may be completely unnecessary if LL can actually be installed in EFI mode to begin with.

@N4RPS,

If Valtam replies that nothing is actually taken out of the ISO to prevent UEFI/EFI installations, you may want to give these instructions a try when you get your new machine back and have made Windows 8 recovery disks:
[TUTORIAL] Installing Mint on a Windows 8/8.1 Computer.

It's a Mint tutorial, but same steps will apply to LL.

One the two machines with UEFI that I've tested LL 2.0 on, neither have detected the bootable medium (disc, usb)
I have been recently working on a way to get LL to boot in UEFI (64bit only) with success so I can semi-confidently say Smile that the next version of LL will boot in UEFI (64bit only). It's a pita to set up get working, but I think in time, necessary. Watch this space.

Very useful thread! Thank you guys!!

I will have to wait until the next version to come back to LL, at least on my main new machine (currently running Mint). I wasn't sure whether there was EFI support or not. Here's hoping Valtam can manage to include it!!

Cheers!

Hi Valtam,
gold_finger was helping me out. When do you think the next version of LL with UEFI boot support will be out? I wanted to install it on my desktop as well. Folks claim that UEFI boot is faster?

There is no set date for this as it requires me to work on it in my spare time. I hope to have this implemented before the end of the year.

Hello!

I, too, look forward to a Linux Lite version with full UEFI support. Meanwhile, I am running LL2 on an SD card in the UEFI unit ...

Is this process usable even after your LL install is complete and running?  Or does it have to be done during a fresh install?

Thanks!
