Will Not Boot After Update - mmcglynn - 05-08-2018 I am running the OS in Virtual Box. I've just updated the OS without issue and restarted the system as directed. The system boots to a black window. The same is true after multiple attempts to restart. I can't do anything. While booting, the window resizes itself a few times, but always end up on a smaller, black window. Help. Re: Will Not Boot After Update - torreydale - 05-08-2018 Consider the Hardware -> Booting Issues section of the Help Manual. Re: Will Not Boot After Update - mmcglynn - 05-08-2018 Thank you, that sent me in the right direction. It did boot in verbose mode, but is hung on: [tt] [ OK ] Started Update UTMP about System Runlevel Changes.[/tt] I can run on an updated snapshot. I had also updated Virtualbox to Version 5.2.10 r122088 (Qt5.6.3) on the snapshot prior to the OS update ran fine. Based on some Googling https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/391612/boot-stopped-at-started-update-utmp-about-system-runlevel-changes-headless-s/391900, this looks like an xwindows issue. Nothing has changed with the host MBP. Re: Will Not Boot After Update - TheDead - 05-08-2018 Most probably the problem is the vm toolbox modules, see here : https://www.freecinema2022.gq/forums/security-bug-fixes/major-update-bug-3-8-fresh-install-(64bit)-vmware-reproducable/ You have to put some module on "hold" for them NOT to update. Re: Will Not Boot After Update - mmcglynn - 05-08-2018 Correct. Wow, Virtualbox how to break your product in one easy step. |
