Install Updates has an error - rondi - 04-30-2018 I got my LL install on my USB Stick, so the first that is recommended is to install all updates which I attempted to do. The error instructed me to post this here---it is MANY lines--so here it is: After scrolling thru the log, the first error that I saw (may have missed one) is this one--pretty close to the bottom: Unpacking firefox (59.0.2+build1-0ubuntu0.16.04.3) over (58.0+build6-0ubuntu0.16.04.1) ... dpkg: error processing archive /var/cache/apt/archives/firefox_59.0.2+build1-0ubuntu0.16.04.3_amd64.deb (--unpack): unable to make backup link of './usr/lib/firefox/browser/omni.ja' before installing new version: No space left on device Edit1: After shutting down LL, I looked at my UBS stick in W7. Windows Explorer show exactly 1.00 gb used (an odd number I think), my Partition Manager shows 1085.4mb used, 29436.5 unused and no boot partition. The error is not for lack of storage on the stick. It is all 1 big partition. In the root, there is a "file" called ubuntu which has a size of 0. It looks to me like a LOT of Folders & Files are hidden. How do I show them? ie I was running Firefox in LL to post the log file. but Firefox is not on the USB stick. Edit2: After adding edit1 I noticed what I pasted from the clipboard, all of it did not make to this post. all the error are at the end. I did not save the log file--I was depending on this post to have it complete. Similar errors were listed to the above. Since you can't see the errors, My guess is--I should hit the Install Updates button again. Maybe there was too many files and this Lite version did not execute them correctly. I notice lots of us have problem installing updates. To start with--I would suggest the designer of the Update program, or as some would call it-- the App, break the number of files to update into 3 or 4 chunks. It took me over an hour to download all the files. =========================== Install Updates Error log =========================== Install Updates could not successfully download and install available updates. Processing triggers for Re: Install Updates has an error - bitsnpcs - 04-30-2018 Hello, on a Live USB you need to create the "USB with Persistence", for updates, and changes such as desktop wallpaper to remain on next reboot. Re: Install Updates has an error - rondi - 04-30-2018 In the program (LinuxLiveUSB Creator) I used to install LL to the USB stick, the Persistence "green light" was on. There was no place for me to check yes or no. Edit1, after going to the LinuxLliveUSB Creator web site--it clearly says "This feature is currently only available on some Linux. Check you Linux in the Support Matrix" LinuxLite is not listed there--so based on the above. It can not be installed using the USB Creator.) And even if I had Persistence--the above web site says for a USB install: I cannot update core files, kernal etc--NO full system updates I cannot install drivers So what good is it--it does not appear to be a complete linux install when using a USB stick??? I also had the checkmark removed from Hide created files on key. All but a very few (around 6) are hidden--iow close to a GB of files are hidden. How do I show these? Ron Re: Install Updates has an error - rondi - 05-10-2018 I reinstalled LiLi using Universal-USB-Installer which has a box to click if you want Persistence. It installed ok AND most importantly to me--LiLi now has persistence. I did the recommended install updates, and I think it installed most of them, but as noted in my original post, It still has an error that looks to me like there is not enough space that was generated in the install partitions. The error that I get is: Need to get 71.5 MB/114 MB of archives. After this operation, 304 MB of additional disk space will be used. E: You don't have enough free space in /var/cache/apt/archives/. Edit1: The archives directory is write protected, so I can't rm the installed files. There is a list of about 10 files listed under Partial, so I guess those were partially downloaded just before it filled up. There was a lot of unpacking going on too--I don't know where that was either. Hopefully the Install program deletes files it has unpacked and those it installs. When I type su it asks for a password--I don't have any and toor does not work. Please--what is the default su passwd? PM me if you need to. I need to do a sudo shutdown -h now in order to shutdown, otherwise an error pops up saying the Session Manager is busy. Out of space. I have a 16gb USB stick with my persistence partition set to 3gb during the install process. I was not asked to format or size anything else during the install. Edit2: I have 2 directories filled to 100% /cdrom/dev/loop1 980M 980M 0 100% /rofs/cow 2.9G 2.9G 0 100% So--please tell me, what partitions do I need to resize, and most importantly---HOW ![]() Ron Re: Install Updates has an error - bitsnpcs - 05-11-2018 Hello, if you use slider til 4GB maximum default of persistence, then it will have OS in on partition, boot, and a 4GB persistence additionally. Tutorial - https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LiveUsbPendrivePersistent Make partition larger tutorial - https://www.pendrivelinux.com/create-a-larger-than-4gb-casper-partition/ Re: Install Updates has an error - rondi - 05-12-2018 Thank you--Moving the slider in Universal-USB-Installer all the way to the right allowed the Install Updates to work without running out of space. It's probably my Internet connections, VZW throttles it down on the weekends, and the Install lost connection after a few minutes with a few Installed noted. I restarted Install Updates from the Menu, the Welcome screen was not present. All went well, a popup said Install had completes satisfactorily. I looked at the .log and does not look like it finished updating. Below are the last 10 or so entries: Setting up libreoffice-pdfimport (1:5.1.6~rc2-0ubuntu1~xenial3) ... I still need to install my printer, and my WiFi is the only network I have--but the LAN is plugged in. Ron Re: Install Updates has an error - bitsnpcs - 05-12-2018 Hello, on those days when I use computer I check for install Updates at start of use and before stop using. Just simple members like myself not allowed to point of at where to post a question, the moderators have to do that, it says this things in rules. Re: Install Updates has an error - rondi - 05-12-2018 I just restarted it and clicked Install Updates, it listed something Ubuntu, I looked away and 5sec later I looked back and it said I was up to date. Your last sentence puzzles me--what are you trying to tell me? Have I been posting this where it should not be, I do not think I should start a new thread every time a I have a question regarding my original post. You have been VERY helpful to this forum and patient with this noob. If there is info you want to post--you could always PM me if it would break the "rules"---or are they "just" guidelines? Thanks, Ron Re: Install Updates has an error - bitsnpcs - 05-12-2018 Hello Ron, my last sentence I refer to the printer install and LAN install, additional tasks you want to do on your system. You are Welcome Ron. ![]() |
