Hello community. I have a few old computers around the house doing nothing so I decided to convert them to Linux machines and Linux Lite was my os of choice to begin with.

I plan to install the OS on a desktop pc that has a hardware issue that I plan to have up and running this week, but for now I've installed it on an older Dell laptop and I couldn't get a wireless connection with it. I submitted a command in Linux, and this is what it returned...

I was able to plug a Netgear WN111v2 adapter in and get a wireless connection, but would like to get the laptop working with its built it adapter because the desktop I plan to use has a linksys wmp54g pci adapter and I have my doubts about it connecting, and I really don't want to have to buy another Netgear adapter (but I will if it makes things easier).

Even though I was able to get the Dell's wifi to connect, I am now connected and using Linux Lite, and it works for what I need it for so I'm happy.

Howdy and Welcome greg. As far as  getting you onboard network gear working. Is it turned on in Bios?
Also. Sometimes you just got to bite the bullet and spend a few bucks to make up for lack of skill .

It is just cheaper in the long wrong to fix something in 5 minutes vs 5 days . Even if the cost is a six pack of beer.
Just the way I roll. That is all I am gonna say about that.

If the hardware is enabled in bios.
What is the output of this. So we know if you are 32bit or 64 bit.

I decided to go ahead and leave it as is. I'll try to fix the connection issue with it at a later date.

I gave this machine to my grand children so they have something to use for youtube and kid learning sites and they are happy with it and I'm happy as well, so it's a win/win.  ;D

I had a similar issue with one of the old laptops I place with youth I help here in SA. I ekected to go with a Linux compatible wireless USB adaptor (Panda specifically as was plug and play) which I got off amazon for around $8-10 USD.

I got the wireless connection working just now, I had to turn bluetooth on and restart.

The past couple days, I was using a Netgear WN111v2 adapter which seemed to have a better connection with 4 bars continuously, but it works either way now so I'm happy.

Installed LL3.8 on another machine today and had no issues with the Linksys WMP54G Wireless-G PCI Adapter. Smile
