Ethernet works but Wifi doesn't on Dell Inspiron 1300 - JanetBiggar - 01-03-2018 Hi again, I'm back with more questions! I am now converting a Dell Inspiron 1300 to LL 3.4 and overall going well. Interestingly this Inspiron connected fine with the ethernet cable, updated fine, AND I checked for drivers (no Wifi ones came up) AND the Wifi is still not working. A previous post of mine with a Dell Inspiron 1545 which had the same issue was resolved when a driver was identified via the "Update Drivers", however no drivers showed up for Wifi. I have checked BIOS and the Wifi is enabled and I also pressed "Fn/F2" but still no Wifi comes on. What does work is the Wifi USB stick so I have it in (just because it is less cumbersome that the ethernet cable) and ran ifconfig although I was not sure if maybe the ifconfig pertains only to ethernet issues..? IF the information is useful here it is copy and pasted: administrator@administrator-ME051:~$ ifconfig eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:14:22:93:19:93 UP BROADCAST MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000 RX bytes:0 (0.0 B) TX bytes:0 (0.0 B) Interrupt:18 lo Link encap:Local Loopback inet addr:127.0.0.1 Mask:255.0.0.0 inet6 addr: ::1/128 Scope:Host UP LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU:65536 Metric:1 RX packets:879 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:879 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:1 RX bytes:124450 (124.4 KB) TX bytes:124450 (124.4 KB) wlx3c1e045acb74 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 3c:1e:04:5a:cb:74 inet addr:192.168.42.28 Bcast:192.168.42.255 Mask:255.255.255.0 inet6 addr: fe80::17d0:f26:213b:c85e/64 Scope:Link UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:10676 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:8995 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000 RX bytes:11355019 (11.3 MB) TX bytes:1095297 (1.0 MB) administrator@administrator-ME051:~$ So my question is: Does this info suggest what is wrong? AND might there be a reasonable fix? I'm wondering if maybe the MiniPCI Device is shot"? If need be I can suggest to the person using this computer to simply work with the Wifi USB. Thanks Re: Ethernet works but Wifi doesn't on Dell Inspiron 1300 - Moltke - 01-03-2018 Hi [member=7067]JanetBiggar[/member] Try reading here http://www.dell.com/support/article/ve/es/vebsdt1/sln151759/how-to-troubleshoot-wireless-network-issues-in-ubuntu-linux-on-your-dell-pc?lang=en From the link above: "The following article provides information on how to identify and resolve a wireless network issue on your Dell PC with Ubuntu Linux installed." Hope this helps! Re: Ethernet works but Wifi doesn't on Dell Inspiron 1300 - Valtam - 01-03-2018 Hi Janet. If you have hardware issues in future, can you please attach a system report to your initial post? Thank you. https://www.freecinema2022.gq/manual/hardware.html#sysreport Re: Ethernet works but Wifi doesn't on Dell Inspiron 1300 - JanetBiggar - 01-07-2018 Thanks for the link Moltke - I did work my way through it with the exception of swapping out the card or even just re-setting the card. Just thought I might be best to quit while I was ahead since the Wifi USB dongle. Also thank you Jerry for pointing out the system report. I will remember to do this in future. |
