Moving LL 3.6 to a new laptop - T1125P - 11-19-2017

Hi all, I was looking now at all the black Friday sales and will be buying a refurbished laptop, with at least USB 3.0 support. Right now I'm  using a Toshiba Netbook running LL 3.6.  When I get the new laptop can I just take out my old SSD and just put it in the new laptop? I really don't want to reinstall and configure my set up again.

Thanks.

Hello T1125P,

a live dvd works this way.

I think it may need new drivers, some may be already included in Linux Lite so would be detected, or would be found during the Install Updates.
Some others say wifi or graphics you may need to install these from the Menu or externally, or edit as some of either can be awkward/need a bit more attention compared to other brands.

A lot would depend on any differences between the two machines hardware.

If you know the exact machine you are looking for someone may be able to have an exact answer if they are familiar with it.

Thanks, I'm not sure which one I want to buy yet. Something under 200$ I just want something to take with me and to download files overnight Wink. I have my main PC for gaming/ripping movies, etc.
When I'm sure of the model I will post  it here.  I think that should work as you said. I can swap drives then go to install updates. If it doesn't go smoothly I'll just install LL 3.6 but the 64 bit version.

I have my eye on this model: https://www.amazon.com/Dell-E6330-Processor-Professional-Refurbished/dp/B0775HXT5W/ref=sr_1_5?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1511195157&sr=1-5&keywords=refurbished+laptop&dpID=41ksorwbhjL&preST=_SX300_QL70_&dpSrc=srch

It has USB 3.0 which I'm looking for.

Good choice.

I had the Latitude 6430 at work for years, no problem there.
For the install, I clone Linux lite drives all the time so I'm pretty sure it will work *BUT*
I would suggest going in the "Driver Install" app thingy and putting back the default Linux drivers first.
If you install third party drivers manually, uninstall them manually too.

Good luck!

Thanks for the advice. Well I went to a Micro Center store near me bought a Lenovo Ideapad 110, for $199. Went home tried to swap hard drives, it is a pain not so easy like a netbook where it's 2 screws and a little compartment door. Well I ended up returning it. Now about that Dell Latitude 6430, 2 things, is it easy to swap hard drives and to confirm it does indeed have USB 3.0 and 802.11ac? I think I will go with the refurb Dell on Amazon then.

Yes easy to swap HDD, it's a door underneath.
It does have USB3 and I don't think it was an "option".
My WiFi card is not ac but this was upgradable if I remember correctly, the card I have is a DELL Wireless 1504 802.11b/g/n (2.4GHz).
If you need me to I can flip it over and check if it's a wifi "mini-card" ...

Cheers!

Hey thanks, I have seen youtube videos of how easy it is to upgrade even the wifi card. I think I will go with the Dell E6330 it has USB 3.0 and I can upgrade the wifi card to 802.11ac.
