64bit on OLD laptop - MohamedKhaled - 11-03-2017 yay finally I found the command I was looking for .... and it had the good news in it (64BIT CABAPLE) BUT THEN I START THINKING will I face no lag (exactly like the 32bit) when running 64bit with my only 1gig ram well for me using 64bit LL means everything - using chrome - steam client - many amazing windows apps for 64bit only systems (using wine) - and the famous sentence (64bit systems can handle both but 32bit systems can only run 32bit ) -using 32bit os on your 64bit processor is like having a beast encaged... so I ask again can I use 64bit??? Re: 64bit on OLD laptop - Paul74 - 11-04-2017 64-bits instruction set is not supported by a 32-bits PC. That's all ! Re: 64bit on OLD laptop - banko - 11-04-2017 you will require at least 4GB of ram for 64 bit. (I believe) Re: 64bit on OLD laptop - rokytnji - 11-04-2017 Can you use 64 bit. Without a Code: inxi -Fxz It is hard to say. My Intel Atom single core N270 touchscreen Netbooks require 32 bit isos. They have 2 gig of ram. They were built in 2009. I do all kinds of unaccepted linux installs that other users may not think of because of miss-informed ideas/assumptions . Like this Code: $ inxi -Fxz Quote:using 32bit os on your 64bit processor is like having a beast encaged... Oh really? Mine flies like the wind. Different strokes for different folks and all that stuff. This laptop is 64 bit capable. But the hard drive came out of a broken IBM Z61 32 bit Laptop. So Instead of reinstalling. I just inserted it this beast. Put a PAE kernel on it. Done. I have no use for Google-Chrome browser or other 64 bit only capable applications. Like you need , I guess. . I do a very small 32 bit Linux install on a 128MB SD card < It was junk to everybody else > that can be ran on any laptop . https://forums.solydxk.com/viewtopic.php?t=1858 So here is a idea for you. If wanting a answer. Give a link to your gear specs from site online. Here is mine for example. https://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2356335,00.asp Good luck maintaining the arabic section of the forum. This team can use the help. Quote:you will require at least 4GB of ram for 64 bit. (I believe) Not really. Depends on what the distro has on it mostly. I am not sure about Linux-Lite. Since my Linux Lite installs have more than enough ram for anything. 64 Bit or 32 bit. A KDE heavy or Gnome Heavy distro may fall into that requirement. But I can't really say about Linux-Lite. Edit: I see you forgot to include this readout in your question? https://www.freecinema2022.gq/forums/tutorials/is-my-pc-32bit-or-64bit/msg36249/?topicseen#msg36249 Re: 64bit on OLD laptop - Artim - 11-05-2017 3 gigs of RAM in my old 64-bit laptop runs Linux Lite just fine. Re: 64bit on OLD laptop - newtusmaximus - 11-05-2017 My 2007 Fuji Si1520 ( See sig below) I originally had running on LL 64 bit with 2 x 1 GB RAM. However on resources, I found that I was staring to use well over 60% RAM on many occasions.. I therefore bought a second hand 2GB stick off a well known second user goods website and the laptop now flies. The extra 1GB helps, as video card does eat some of the RAM memory. So not sure what the maximum ram your laptop will tolerate, but go for it if you can source at a good price. It will be a good investment. NOTE http://mobilespecs.net/laptop/Fujitsu-Siemens/Fujitsu-Siemens_AMILO_Si_1520.html The above spec said maximum ram was 2x1 GB - HOWEVER, The laptop took 2 GB + 1GB... . I had the latest bios which said 3GB Ram max. By downgrading the bios ( retrograde ROM flashing) some users had managed to get 2 x 2GB RAM modules working but for me that step would have been risky and I did not buy a further (second) 2GB Ran stick as I did not want to push my luck. Suggest you try any user groups for your laptop to see if you can get any info on the BIOS for your machine and what its maximum RAM it will tolerate. Hope this helps. Re: 64bit on OLD laptop - tek10 - 11-06-2017 I have a 2009 HP G60 laptop with a dual core Pentium T4200 cpu and 3GB RAM, it runs 64 bit Lite just fine. Current uptime is 13 days and memory usage is up to 1.7GB. When I restart and have used the system for a short while, memory usage is in the 500MB range. YES sure ... I have been wondering why the requirements for LL 64 BIT IS THE SAME AS 32BIT ... AND THAT'S WHY Re: 64bit on OLD laptop - MohamedKhaled - 11-07-2017 read this first https://www.freecinema2022.gq/forums/other/any-thought-about-how-to-download-windows-aside-linuxlite/msg36286/#msg36286 I decided to TRY to fix both threads at one by doing the following. 1-deleting everything on my computer (after backup) 2-installing windows first .(safer and easier) 3- download linuxlite 64 bit instead ... 4-will try this on next Sunday ... and will replay what happened to both posts ... if anything I will do is wrong ... please inform me before Re: 64bit on OLD laptop - MohamedKhaled - 11-12-2017 wooho iam back after a week of installing ......and i want to say LINUXLITE 64BIT WORKS GREAT EVEN ON 1 GB OF RAM ..IMEAN ialready installed everything i had in 32bit ... the same nonlag happens ... even that i have this time downloaded linux among windows 7 ... which by the way woorks as a great compination too ... BOTTOM LINE : 64 bit doesnt lagg if 32bit didnt lagg for you ..actualley i think that now my pc if faster than before ... thanks linuxlite for making me GET THE BEST OUT OF MY COMPUTER |
