What's the risk using Systemback ? - m654321 - 10-29-2017

It's well known on this forum that many of us love Systemback's simplicity and would ideally like to continue using it. However,  it will be apparently unsupported at some time in the future. I have some question about this:

1. When does official support for Systemback end - i.e. for how long can we continue to use it safely? For the duration of LL3 series? What about LL4?

2. Has anyone stepped-in to unofficially support Systemback?

3. Given the good malware resistance of Linux generally, what are the likely risks for home-users continuing to
    use Systemback?

1. That is unknown. We'll have to wait for the Dev to inform us. Series 4.x won't be released until June 2018 so there is a ton of time left. No panic. Series 3.x should be fine, but it is something we will certainly keep an eye on.
2. Not that I'm aware of.
3. There will be software on your computer now that is less updated and maintained than Systemback. I have already said in the Forums that if Systemback does not offer official support for 18.04 it won't be included in Series 4.x

If there is any major news, I'll be sure to report it.

I've thought about this too... when we back up our updated system using Systemback, I think there would be minimal risk, and I'm likely to continue using it in 4.x, unsupported or not.
