No live boot or install - Mibi - 10-02-2017 I have downloaded Linux Lite 64bit and burnt it to a DVD. I then changed my bios settings so that it would boot live from the DVD in EUEFI boot settings with no luck. I did the same under Legacy boot settings again with no luck. Please someone could you tell me what I am doing wrong. Re: No live boot or install - bitsnpcs - 10-02-2017 Hello Mibi, have you disabled Fast Boot ? Re: No live boot or install - gold_finger - 10-03-2017 1. Double-check to make sure you burned the ISO as an "image" to the DVD vs. just burning it as a regular data file. If done correctly you should see several files and folders on the DVD if you open it with a file explorer when done. If you only see one large ISO file on the DVD it was not burned as an image, so re-try the burn. (See this area of Help Manual for more info.) 2. Linux Lite can only be booted and installed in Legacy mode, so don't bother trying to boot in UEFI mode. 3. If no luck booting DVD in Legacy mode by changing boot mode settings in Bios/UEFI Settings, there should be a way to invoke a per-session Boot Menu using a different key press on startup than the one you use to get into main settings. Invoking that boot menu should offer choice to boot the DVD in Legacy mode and should work to get computer to boot the DVD. Key presses vary by manufacturer, so not sure what yours will be. For example, Dell usually invokes main settings menu with <F2> and the separate boot menu with <F12>. The two keys for HP computers are usually <F9> and <F10>; or invoked by first hitting <Esc> key, then choosing either <F9> or <F10> for resulting menu. (You may be able to see a message quickly flash across the screen letting you know which key to hit for the boot menu during initial P.O.S.T., before your operating system starts up -- so watch closely for clues there if none of the above key presses apply to your computer.) If none of above seems to help, report back with exact model computer you're using, approximate age of computer (if you know), what operating system you've got on it now (Windows XP, 7, 8, 10, or Mac)? Also, let us know if you are planning to dual boot with current OS, or replace what's on there now with LL? If you successfully boot into DVD and are planning to install on a computer that does have UEFI firmware, it would be a good idea to post back here with some output from a couple of terminal commands before you attempt the install -- especially if you are planning to dual boot with Windows 8-10. Open a terminal in LL and enter the following commands one-at-a-time: Code: inxi -Fxz The first one will list specs of your computer system; the second will tell us how the hard drive is currently partitioned. We'll need that info to give you proper instructions for install. See this post for directions on how to post back here with the output of those commands. |
