Hi everyone! - Moltke - 09-18-2017 Hi everyone! Hope you're all having a nice life. Glad to be here. I've been using Linux Lite for quite a few weeks now, again, since I've used it in the past before. I'm on the XFCE flavor which I must say is my favorite desktop environment; really lightweight and easy to use. I've used XFCE in almost any distro I've tried. I hope we can share experiences, tips, hows to, best practice advices. I'm not expert or whatsoever, but I'll try my best ;D. Re: Hi everyone! - smhardesty - 09-18-2017 Welcome to the forum. It's the most friendly and most helpful forum I think I've ever belonged to. If you run into problems, don't hesitate to ask questions. The guys on here will most definitely be able to help you out. Enjoy! 8) Re: Hi everyone! - TheDead - 09-18-2017 Welcome! You'll like it here! Like Steve mentioned, people on the forums are nice, they really act like human beings! Except me, because I'm just a sentient entity roaming the Intertubes! ![]() I prefer XFCE too, since I am also new to Linux, the Whisker menu with it's program description is what sold it to me. To be fair, I was also impressed by Moshka's eye candy from Bodhi Linux 4.1.0 which used about 100MB of RAM after booting up. But, it's buggy, and not so user friendly. LLLL- Long Live Linux Lite Cheers! - TheDead (TheUxNo0b) Re: Hi everyone! - Artim - 09-18-2017 Alot of us have come here from other Linux distros that are supposedly "beginner-friendly" and "lightweight," but this just simply beats them all. n old axiom in Linux used to be that "speed is sacrificed for user-friendliness... You can have one or the other but not both." Linux Lite breaks that old paradigm and proves you can indeed have simplicity, beginner-friendliness, and speed even on older hardware. Welcome here! Haven't tried the Whisker menu so far to be honest, but since you've mentioned it now I will. ;D (09-18-2017, 08:25 PM)RandomBoy link Wrote: Alot of us have come here from other Linux distros that are supposedly "beginner-friendly" and "lightweight," but this just simply beats them all. Thanks! I was on Debian, really like it I admit but many frustrating issues with graphics driver. So I tried Peppermint next which I liked too, especially the app to create usb bootable drives, really nice that one but it suddenly started to crash. I presume it was my fault, don't know exactly how but I'm certain I screwed it up and here I am, well I should say "I'm back", since I used Lite 2.4, I think ;D. But yeah you're right, Linux Lite rocks! CPU load and temps are really low, not to mention ram usage. ![]() Re: Hi everyone! - TheDead - 09-19-2017 (09-18-2017, 10:01 PM)Moltke link Wrote: Thanks! Welcome.Things I learned in school in geographical classes are old and dated, but isn't there three Americas? ![]() Could have changed though, like lots of countries names and even the number of planets in our solar system.
