Linux Lite and KDE? - PinStripe - 03-27-2017

(Wasn't sure where to put this, but...)

I wish Linux Lite would be available in a KDE version as well.

I really am a KDE fan and love all the options it offers. Plus,
the KDE Connect works great with connecting your phone
to your desktop. I know you can do it on the XFCE desktop,
but i have had issues. It's not reliable.

Anyway, have you had any thoughts of adding another GUI
to this distro?

It wouldn't be Lite then.

Never say never, but there are no current plans. It all depends on a myriad of factors both present, and future.

It would certainly be a great challenge to make it so. There are many similarities to Windows, but my brain hurts at the thought of rewriting 1000's of lines of code and documentation. Not terribly keen on that prospect.

If you're looking for the eye candy this might be something easy and reliable.

I like KDE too but hate the desktop settings but love the window managers. That link might be something you might like.

You could find a way to come up with the lightest KDE version out there!  Smile

LinuxNoob:
I did this and KDE Connect still does not work. I also don't see any
difference.  But Thanks!

It would be Lite, size wise, if a desktop environment changer gui was used to download and install each desktop environment as wanted, like I described before.

Re: Linux Lite and KDE? - tek10 - 03-28-2017

Basing on KDE Neon would be a great place to start. Very "Lite" for a KDE system.

Re: Linux Lite and KDE? - Coastie - 03-28-2017

XFCE is my favorite desktop environment. Then probably Mate then Budgie. KDE isn't even on my list.

Instead of asking Jerry and his team to do so much work, why don't one of the ones who want KDE add it by Synaptic and report back how it works out.

From my experiences using kwin , It's only a window manager however there are 2 different commands that load up the KDE desktop modules (as far as I got) Like I said I enjoy the XFCE desktop but daddy does like some candy as well. lol

Look at the bottom of that tutorial link and it explains on how to discover the other modules listed. Maybe kde connect is there.

Code:
kcmshell5 --list
kcmshell4 --list

Under kcmshell4 I found these modules available
device_automounter_kcm - Configure automatic handling of removable storage media
emoticons              - Choose Emoticon Theme
filetypes              - Configure file associations
icons                  - Customize KDE Icons
kcm_attica            - Manage Social Desktop Providers
kcm_kdnssd            - Configure service discovery
kcm_phonon            - Settings for the Phonon multimedia framework
kcm_ssl                - SSL Versions and Certificates
kcmcgi                - Configure the CGI KIO slave
kcmkded                - KDE Services Configuration
kcmnotify              - System Notification Configuration
kcmtrash              - Configure trash settings
language              - Language, numeric, and time settings for your particular region
spellchecking          - Configure the spell checker
