Can I install Linux Lite on a Windows Intel BayTrail Tablet? - Ironfighter - 01-10-2017

I have a windows 10 "Protab" tablet - do you think I could install Linux Lite on it?  Here are its specs:-

Micro-USB & MicroSD Input (Supports up to 32GB)
Android 5.0 Lollipop
Google Play Store
16GB Storage^ & 1GB RAM
Quad Core Processor
10" HD Touchscreen (1024 x 600)
0.3MP Front Camera
Bluetooth 4.0 Connectivity

I bought it on a whim because it was cheap but its going to waist sitting in a cupboard for the last 12 months.

Could you please post a link to the product specs. We'll need to see a full spec sheet.

Thanks for responding Jerry -  will have to do a bit of digging to make sure I am giving you the right specs but will do so at the weekend.

Jerry here is the link as promised:

Have I misled by saying this is an Android device? - if so my apologies to all. It is also running Windows 8.1 not 10 as I stated previously.

I have discovered that I have an 8gb micro sad card in the slot (too much stuff!)

It doesn't show it in the manual but it also has a micro HDMI port.  I am sure I have the right manual because I got the model number from the back of the device.

It should be possible, but it will be very slow I'd imagine. Google 'install linux to a windows tablet' and prepare to do some reading and video watching. It really depends on so many factors. Linux is not a thought when these tablets are made, so you're if you're up for a challenge, have fun.

Throwing a plugged nickle in..

You can install LL to SD card - the faster the better... I have LL installed on SD on my Kangaroo in my sig. It performs well believe it or not; but you will feel a slow card. Dual booting w/ W10 on the the internal..

I also have a "Winbook" tablet which looks very similar to the tablet you posted with SD and USB... The problem with mine is BIOS getting it to boot to another other than internal, there are a few hoops. Then even if so, I would need to modify the install with a 32-bit EFI bootloader, again its possible..

As Jerry mentions google it; you want to know the full process and your comfort level before you find yourself with a tablet and no OS...

Try googling your table and linux  to see if anyone has attempted specifically on your model prior..
example in my case: winbook linux or linux on winbook tw700

*Update*
FWIW... The Specs are identical... Except display on mine is 7 and 8 on the one you posted... But believe Winbook had 7, 8 and 10 inch displays....

Atom quad core cpu should be faster than my single core atom cpu on my touchscreen netbook.

Attach a external keyboard and make a linux-lite bootable live usb and try a live run. My touchscreen netbook Linux_lite install below.

Edit. I think the only glitch of all this may be if the baytrail chips are integrated in to the video graphic chips. But you won't know till you try a live run I guess.

The bay trail (tablet) should be decent.. There are a few hoops mainly as MY tablet is set up with a 32bit UEFI boot loader but its doable..
Note the system type:

The kangaroo in my sig is a Cherry Trail which boots fine from the SD card installed - system is true 64bit UEFI..

[member=494]rokytnji[/member] I debated doing it on the tablet but I haven't seen the keyboard work; I've seen your link before, which gives me hope LOL or at least an idea if I get into trouble.

Thanks everybody for your advice.

As it turns out this gadget came with a mini bluetooth keyboard which I actually like to use.  I think what I will do is try at first is a live install on the mini SD card.

I'll post on how it turns out later in the coming week.

Thanks again.
