Simple to use Anti Virus frontend for Linux - Valtam - 12-27-2016

Have started coding with Yad, and I'm finding it extremely flexible.
The front end is far from finished but I'm going to make this distro friendly so that other distributions can take advantage of it.
The AV engine is ClamAV.

I feel the linux world is missing a simple to use, AV client.
There's no date yet when this will be available, it's just something that I'm hacking in my spare time.

I just starting looking around for an AV client to put on a LL system and so far have had ZERO luck getting something that both works AND I can figure out how to use.  :-)

Is this YAD based UI of yours something you hope to include in future LL versions or more of a standalone thing?

Sorry it took so long to get back to you, I've been rather busy. Still tackling this in some spare time. Latest iteration, again, far from complete:

This may end up as a option in Lite Software. I get lots of messages from people about this.

Great idea J.  However I am far from sure on how reliable/up to date clamav is.  Tried it for some time and the updates of the virus /threats library etc were far from frequent.  This is assuming of course I had it set up properly. i.e the GUI.

After a recent episode with android based malware on a family mobile ( discussed elsewhere and assistance given in this forum) I have had to leap into the dark and load/use SOPHOS ( free to home users).  This to ensure that the threats/malware library is constantly refreshed and all incoming is screened in the background.  Does tend to slow response times down but that is the price to pay.  Using it to ensure I do not inadvertently act as a conduit for threats when exchanging files with others not enlightened enough to use LL.
I did not feel, perhaps wrongly, that clamav was sufficiently current to deal with the potential threat I was trying to deal with.  i.e clamav might give a false sense of security?  Me being paranoid??

Perhaps a user friendly front end for SOPHOS?  Could be a winner as they have stopped developing their GUI Wink

Jerry, if this allows me to manually scan and not to have it constantly in the background, it is a winner for me.

(I have used SOPHOS and CLAM in other distros and in Linux Lite, and have yet to catch anything. But they were a
drag on speed and RAM, just enough to wish there was some way to turn them on and off manually. YES, I realize
this undermines the programs, but with Linux Lite, and able to reinstall a recent ISO made via Systemback, I have been
surfing "nekkid."  :-[  )

The ClamAV daemon will run in the background. Folks need to be aware of this. Why would you have an AV if it wasn't protecting your system Smile

I guess it is dumb, on reflection. I don't use a mail program, nor am I on a network. I simply surf and use webmail. No Social Media, either. And no mingling with Microsoft products, anymore. I thought it was a small risk and maybe that is faulty thinking. Thanks for responding, Jerry.

[member=6876]elelme[/member] not a problem Smile

Update screenshot, I'm really liking the way this is turning out, and, in less than 110 lines of code for the entire program:

Jerry, I will gladly add it when it is available. You can teach an old dog new tricks.  ;D

We now have a tray icon too that will launch Lite AV:
