Thermal Paste Application - Jocklad - 12-04-2016 Been reading up on cpu/heatsink cleaning. There is a bewildering amount of advice on how thermal paste should be applied. How do you apply thermal paste. : : : Jocklad Re: Thermal Paste Application - richtea - 12-04-2016 It´s a personal thing, so take your pick: https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=applying+thermal+paste Re: Thermal Paste Application - Valtam - 12-04-2016 The way I do it - a small blob in the middle of the cpu, press down with the heatsink evenly. Re: Thermal Paste Application - technomancer - 12-04-2016 The way I learned was to put absolutely the minimal amount of thermal paste. Put a small pea sized amount on CPU, then take a business card and smooth it out as thin as possible. The goal is to have a paper thin layer. The paste is only for filling "gaps" and manufacturing imperfections when mating the heat sink. ( Too much thermal paste can actually have a negative affect. ) Link to a good guide-> http://www.tomsguide.com/us/Laptop-Notebook-Overheating,review-1596-9.html (If you get into industrial applications on SCR's, transistors and power dissipating components then there are precise ways per manufacturer.) Re: Thermal Paste Application - Jocklad - 12-05-2016 Thanks for all your help. Last night I completely stripped down a Lenova desktop for cleaning. Re-assembled the cpu/heatsink using Arctic silver thermal paste using the pea method. Psensor is reading cpu temp about 30 deg C. All is well. Will mark this thread as solved. Jocklad Re: Thermal Paste Application - technomancer - 12-06-2016 Excellent 8) glad we could help. |
