LL 3.0 - restart button, add printer problems, mouse cursor - mdavies5 - 06-03-2016

Congratulations on V3.0. Everything I have tested works fine but just 3 problems you might like to know about.
1. I cannot find a 'Restart' button. The icon in the menu is just a logout option. Adding the applet to the panel offers 'logout', 'shutdown' etc but not 'restart'. The only way to restart is to logout and then restart form the menu on the login panel. Am I missing the obvious?
2. The printer problem is common to all Ubuntu distros I have tested. IT applies to Epson XP310. The installer identifies the printer and finds a driver. I accept the license, message "Installing Driver" then takes me back to the driver search screen. This behaviour repeats over and over. Has anybody else encountered this with any printer? I am surprised that the Printer installer is not included in the Settings Manager as it is with most other distros.
3. My mouse cursor disappears, particular if I logout or lock screen and then return. If I logout again and login the cursor has returned.
4. One observation, that is purely subjective, is the default theme and window settings. The Title bar merges with the panel and other windows. It is difficult to identify to click and move a window. I solve this by using the Moheli window style.

Log out gives a Restart option in the upper middle row.

I installed LL 3 yesterday and also had my cursor disappear, (64 bit)
On trying to see if it was a software problem or if it was something I had done, I managed too dis enable my touchpad (definitely my fault ha ha) Having to use a mouse.

Otherwise seems as impressive as normal Smile

When I install a new upgrade, I always have a couple of days trying too push it to its limits and try things I normally wouldn't, then do a total new install, as it only takes minutes.

I'll continue pushing it, today, do a fresh install tomorrow, and report back.

BTW thanks to all Smile

Keith

Thanks Torreydale, but I never get to see this window in 3.0. The menu item in 2.8 produced it but the same menu in 3.0 just logs you out; as specified in the tooltip.
It looks like a design change.

Quick workaround for disappearing mouse cursor:

Ctrl+Alt+F1
then
Ctrl+Alt+F7

Hope this helps.

Try going Menu > Settings > Session and Startup on the General tab make sure 'Prompt on Logout' is checked.
That setting turns that window with the options on and off.

Hello, first post on this site. First time using Linux Lite, long time Linux user.

I'm on 3.0 and also have the disappearing cursor issue. As user neptune33 mentioned, I do the Ctrl+Alt+F1 then Ctrl+Alt+F7 workaround, works for me.
I don't have the issue with the restart button missing, its been there since install two days ago. Cool OS! Using it on my Samsung R480 laptop.

The work around works but its so annoying.....I find out that others debian based distros are having the same problem....If LL do not address this issue very soon I'll have no other option but go back to Mint.

If you're ok without a lock screen...
Disabling "Lock Screen when system is going for sleep" in Power Manager and/or
Disabling "Lock on Suspend" in Lite Locker
and setting "Automatically lock the session" to never in Power Manager

- disabling/enabling one should repeat in the other, but once disable the system will wake from sleep with the cursor still visible.. BUT it will wake to the desktop (no lock)..

Its another work around option for the time being..
