Failed to mount "dat" - DLX - 01-29-2016

I was coping files from computer to external drive when LL froze. I left computer for a bit nothing was moving mouse so couldn't unmount ex_drive. SO powered off computer.

This was old Computer A as I was put a new hard drive in Computer B  that's why copying data across.

on Computer B  see the other partitions of Ex-drive but not the one I had open when LL froze.
I used my neighbour computer Win7 and Ex-drive loads ok and partition opens can see data.

I did look at google most was talk about 3rd party software, as above can see data on Win7 computer.

here is error popup

Quote:Error mounting /dev/sdb1 at /media/Nims/dat: Command-line `mount -t "ntfs" -o "uhelper=udisks2,nodev,nosuid,uid=1000,gid=1000,dmask=0077,fmask=0177" "/dev/sdb1" "/media/Nims/dat"' exited with non-zero exit status 13: $MFTMirr does not match $MFT (record 0).
Failed to mount '/dev/sdb1': Input/output error

NTFS is either inconsistent, or there is a hardware fault, or it's a
SoftRAID/FakeRAID hardware. In the first case run chkdsk /f on Windows
then reboot into Windows twice. The usage of the /f parameter is very
important! If the device is a SoftRAID/FakeRAID then first activate
it and mount a different device under the /dev/mapper/ directory, (e.g.
/dev/mapper/nvidia_eahaabcc1). Please see the 'dmraid' documentation
for more details.

Quote:chkdsk /f
/f this will format partition and losses data.

Thanks

to add I see sudo mount /dev/sdd1 /mnt but don't want be typing code and not know what it does as my losses data.

Re: Failed to mount "dat" - torreydale - 01-29-2016

In Windows, the chkdsk /f does not format.  The /f will attempt to fix found disk errors.  Linux Lite noticed an input/output error which is why the drive failed to mount.

Do what the error says.  Connect the external drive to your Windows machine, run chkdsk /f on the drive letter representing the external hard drive, and then reboot into Windows twice.

If you don't know how to do that within Windows using a command prompt, another way would be to open Windows Explorer, right click on the drive representing your external hard drive, and go to Properties.  Within Properties, click on the Tools tab.  You should see an option called "Error-checking."  Click on "Check now..."  Make sure the "Automatically fix file system errors" square is checked, and then click on "Start."

After that, reboot into Windows, twice.

Hi torreydale

I'll have uses my neighbour computer.
I didn't play about with drive as could open drive and see files on Win7 but no on LL.

I'll give it a go thanks for help.

didn't work, in Windows "Error-checking."  Click on "Check now..."  showed no error but can scan any way did that rebooted tried on LL still didn't mount. So back next door tried again and changed drive letter.

Still no mount on LL
