no internet connection for the install - atomwaffe - 07-03-2015 Hi, I am trying to install linux lite on my laptop, I have the bootable USB stick already with the live version but can't make the install since I have no internet connection. The laptop has an internal wlan disc but it is not on and linux doesnt see any networks (there is wifi network at my place). So I would like to ask what do you suggest me to do, I guess it needs driver but I am a beginner and don't know how to get it and install it. my computer parameters: DELL inspiron 640m, processor 1.6GHz, RAM 1GB, Dell Wireless 1390 Mini-Card Thank you very much, I believe this will not be an issue for you guys....could you please give me instructions that I will understand, like I said before I am a linux beginner Thanks Re: no internet connection for the install - Valtam - 07-03-2015 You don't need an internet connection to install Linux Lite, just proceed through the install. Re: no internet connection for the install - atomwaffe - 07-04-2015 ok, I managed to install it without connection. Now I would like to get the wifi working. What do you suggest? The wifi control light is off and my computer has no physical switch. Thanks Re: no internet connection for the install - Valtam - 07-04-2015 Please paste the output of: Code: inxi -n Re: no internet connection for the install - atomwaffe - 07-04-2015 Card-1: Broadcom BCM4401-B0 100BASE-TX driver: b44 IF: eth0 state: down mac: 00:15:c5:78:51:76 Card-2: Broadcom BCM4311 802.11b/g WLAN driver: b43-pci-bridge IF: N/A state: N/A mac: N/A Re: no internet connection for the install - Valtam - 07-04-2015 Please do the same for: Code: rfkill list all Re: no internet connection for the install - technomancer - 07-04-2015 The easiest way I have found when wifi card is not auto detected is to Connect a Ethernet/LAN cable to the computer so you have a network connection active, run updates. Then disconnect when updates have finished, and REBOOT. If you can see Wifi networks it worked. If not then further investigation is required, possibly windows drivers. There are sever guides to get it working on Ubuntu, however some Wifi cards are problematic. I have the same card on my Dell, but run different distros, I will try installing LL and see if it works..... Re: no internet connection for the install - atomwaffe - 07-05-2015 rfkill list all lists nothing Re: no internet connection for the install - Valtam - 07-05-2015 Check that the wireless is not disabled in the BIOS, this is somewhat common. Also, please post a screenshot of the Install Drivers window. Re: no internet connection for the install - atomwaffe - 07-05-2015 it is enabled in BIOS and screenshot - |
