How do I move /home out of the root partition? - m654321 - 05-16-2015 I installed LL2.4 as a UEFI enabled dual boot system with Windows 8.1. I have two physical drives. LL was installed as root with Win8.1 on SSD drive 1. Data files are shared between both OSes, using symlinking to SSD drive 2. I would now like to transfer 'home' from root and install it as a separate /home partition to unallocated space on the SSD drive 1. The reason I want to do this is so that the configuration files in a separate /home partition preserve my settings, rather than these being wiped out each time I replace LL2.4 with new LL releases. Many thanks in advance for any help with this. Regards Mike Re: How do I move /home out of the root partition? - rokytnji - 05-16-2015 Kinda involved and not a simple thing you ask. /etc/fstab needs editing just for starters. All I can do is point you to this thread on how I handle testing installs. I know how to do it. I can't explain it online though very well. http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/linux-general-1/what-partitioning-scheme-do-you-use-4175542528/#post5362192 http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/linux-general-1/what-partitioning-scheme-do-you-use-4175542528/#post5362598 Just another how to I made dealing with moving home folder from one ssd drive to another when I owned eeepcs http://antix.freeforums.org/dealing-with-a-asus-eee-900-install-of-antix-8-5-t2328.html I am sure other members here have better instructions to follow than what I wrote. After a major upgrade, like LL2.x -> LL3.x, it is much safer just to re-create the settings from scratch. Minor upgrades, like LL2.4 -> LL2.6 -> LL2.8 are taken care of by Lite Upgrade feature as explained below, and you don't need to worry about the settings in /home doing those upgrades: https://www.freecinema2022.gq/forums/release-announcements/linux-lite-2-4-final-released/ |
