Linuxlite 2.4 install - can't set UK keyboard as default - mcmurch - 05-07-2015

Hi All

I have recently installed Linuxlite 2.4 32 bit ISO on my Fujitsu Seimens Amilo Pro V3515.
At the install stage English UK was selected as language and keyboard layout. For some reason the laptop defaults to US layout when pc boots up to home page. I have tried to change the settings but nothing seems to work.

Does anyone know how to solve this please ?

Have Amilo Pro V3405 UK keyboard set up.

A) find keyboard icon at bottom tight hand of screen, Right click and choose preferences
Open Input Method  tab - Tick "customize active input methods"

Select an input method and choose English - English (UK extended winkeys) and press "+Add" button
This should then appear in the "input method"  box below

If in that box you already have English US - highlight this and  press the "X Delete" button.  This should remove the English US option.

Press Close

Then  go to

B) Menu/settings/keyboard
Choose "Layout" Tab
Make sure that the "Use System Defaults" option remains UNTICKED

Keyboard Model
Set to "Generic 102-key (intl) PC

Make sure that both the "Change Layout Option " and "Compose Key" option remain blank.

The Keyboard Layout Box below should just read English (UK)

Close the Box

and reboot the computer.

On restarting the computer open  menu/office/new Document  and test you keyboard has the correct layout  numbers  qwertyuiop - uppercase numbers "£$%^&*()_+
@ etc are where they should be.

NOTE The  Fujitsu Amilo Keyboard option did NOT work for me

Hope the above works for you.

Not all the ancillary keys work for me but good enough - all the main functions work OK.

Hi thanks for your prompt reply it is appreciated.

Unfortunately has not worked so far. Followed your instructions and rebooted.

This is were I am now:-

1. When I click on keyboard icon on bottom right hand corner of screen it lists 2 keyboards namely English UK extended WinKeys and also English US.

2. When you right click the keyboard icon and go into preferences, input method, only English UK extended WinKeys is listed.

3. When you go into Keyboard settings, layout, user system defaults is unchecked, keyboard model is set to Generic 102 key (Intl) PC, and Keyboard layout is set as English UK.

As suggested after reboot created an office doc but no joy. For example when you hit the U key number 4 comes up. Hit the L key and 3 comes up etc.

Any suggestions folks ?

Re: Linuxlite 2.4 install - can't set UK keyboard as default - mcmurch - 05-08-2015

Hi folks

Think I have solved the issue.

It would appear that the keyboard issues were caused by the Num Lock switching on automatically when the laptop boots into the home screen.

Strange because it does not switch on at the initial login screen, but then suddenly switches on when the home page/welcome page appears.

Pressing Fn button and Num button switches it off. The keyboard then functions correctly in terms of entering passwords etc.

Would be interested if anyone knows how to configure laptop that Num lock does not switch on automatically at start up though ?

Cheers

Problem solved. On my next reboot Num lock seems to be automatically switched off.

Thanks for everybody's input !!

Excellent news Smile Pleased all working now.  The Amilo Pro is a great little laptop.  Good screen and excellent feel to the keyboard. Your 2 GB RAM will help it fly using LL.  Happy exploring Linux and what it can do for you.  Enjoy!
