How do I set up a standard user a/c in win8.1 in win/LL dual boot? - m654321 - 05-04-2015 This may be a strange question to ask in an LL forum but I'll give it a go... I have a UEFI enabled LL2.4/win8.1 dual-boot system. My Problem is that I would like to be able to set of a standard user (no password) and administrator (password protected) accounts on win8.1, but don't know how to do it. Whenever I've used win7, I always set up two accounts: 1. a standard user a/c for day-to-day running, including the internet (no password, limited privileges) 2. a system administrator account (password protected) for making changes to the computer; never used for surfing on internet. However, I've just bought a new laptop and of course it came preloaded with win8.1. Setting up a standard user a/c on this OS, is not as clear as in win7: the same buttons to click on aren't there under user a/c settings. At the moment, with win8.1, I have a local a/c that is marked administrator, and this screen presents itself whenever I boot into win8.1 from the grub screen, and it asks for a password. I don't want to use this password protected a/c to surf the internet, as having entered my password, I am therefore giving permission to anything it meets on the internet (e.g. malware) to modify my computer if it so wishes. Therefore, how do I set up a standard user a/c in win8.1 to allow safe surfing on the internet? I didn't find anything useful when I searched online with Google. Many thanks for any clarification on this. Regards Mike |
