Search and ye shall find, I hope, - Golffinn - 04-13-2015

This is my first post. I have only recently been introduced to Linux and have a lot to learn. Being a silver surfer also means I am sometimes slow on the uptake but that is another story
I have a meeting to attend tonight and I need to find a number of documents that contain similar themes. For instance say I have a hundred poems and 9 of them contain the word "dream". How can I out sort those 9 documents.

It is a forlorn hope that this will be read and answered prior to the meeting but I have nothing to lose. :-[

On the web or on your computer?

On the web it is for instance Google.
In your computer maybe Searchmonkey or something alike. Big Grin

Thank you for taking the time to reply.

These are personally written documents which are in a file on the computer.

You're welcome. Big Grin
It is normal searching I think?

Maybe this is of some help.

Hi Golffinn,

Welcome to the LL community! Smile

What program did you use to create these documents? Meaning, which type of documents do you store your poems in? Like plain text files (*.txt), Word files (*.doc), Open/LibreOffice files (*.odt)... and the list goes on.
The type of file will determine which method for searching is best suited.

Good luck with you meeting! Smile

Hello!

Another way is to use Catfish File Search, installed through Lite Software...
