ASUS Notebook(UEFI) won't detect Linux Lite live USB - grdguez01 - 03-12-2015
Hello everybody, I'm new around here but I'm not new to LL. I have used LL a lot, I have installed on several computers(I put it on my Mom's desktop along with Windows 7 and she never looked back
), overall I think is a great Linux distro(imo). Enough with the introduction, I'm here because I'm having problem with my ASUS notebook (It came with windows 8.1). I can boot and have successfully being able to install Ubuntu, xubuntu,lubuntu, Mint on it(not all of them at the same time) but for reason I can't even manage to boot LL. from a USB. I really like this OS.(as I mentioned above) and it is driving me nuts the fact that I can't even boot it from a live USB. I have a 5 years old HP-Pavilion dv7 and it just works, it's insane that I can't accomplish the same thing with my less than a year old notebook. Any help would be appreciated!

Are you still running windows on it? If not, go into bios and disable all the crapware windows forces people to use, secure boot, uefi. LL is not UEFI friendly.

Yes I'm but I could not get the USB to boot even with a virgin hard drive (yes I even erased my entire windows installation and formatted my hard drive for LL). Right now I do have W8.1 installed on the notebook since I used a lot for school, work and on the go stuff. I've disabled secure boot and fast boot on my bios but I can't find the option to disable uefi and boot into legacy mood. Asus X200M, I'm kinda desperate at this point

Look in the bios under Boot, and look for a reference to CSM or similar, enable it. Also disable the windows boot manager.

Sometimes the screens have slightly different names
If it helps.? On my HP Laptop BIOS I had to:
On Security Screen I have = DISABLE Secure Boot and also ENABLE Legacy
On Boot Order Screen I have = Moved the USB DISK/DEVICE above the Primary Disk

I found it!
I needed to disable Windows Boot manager :
. Anyways, I decided to leave W8.1 Pro in the ASUS notebook and installed Linux Lite on my HP Pavilion(I erased Windows and installed LL alone). Now I can enjoy LL on a bigger screen (17") and still have Windows around on the 11" Notebook when need it(ASUS notebook is touchscreen so it's a plus when using Windows 8.1, can't wait to install 10 on it tho) ;DThanks for trying to help, I will stick around this awesome forum.

There are folks here that have found a way to make LL 'play nice' in a UEFI environment. Unfortunately, I'm not one of them.
I AM getting to a point where I can take another look at it, so that may change here. Right now, I'm trying to find the latest version of a Lubuntu kernel that still upports my HP Compaq nc6320's built-in Bluetooth adapter. The newer kernels seem to have broken it...
