Installing XFCE Themes - Dana Marsee - 11-23-2014 I have installed several themes per instruction manual (only xfce) and the themes don't show up in the Appearance section in the Settings Manager...I find them in the Window Manager, but not in the Appearance section. Any idea what I'm doing wrong? Thanks.. 8) Re: Installing XFCE Themes - rokytnji - 11-23-2014 Might Help. Might Not. https://www.freecinema2022.gq/forums/index.php?topic=909.0 Re: Installing XFCE Themes - Dana Marsee - 11-23-2014 Thanks..I guess those themes just don't work for us. I didn't see anything but the xfwm4 files. Oh well. Thanks very much for your reply..I'll keep trying themes til I find one that works. P.S. I found a theme with gt-2.0 and although it wasn't xfce it worked. Thanks for your input it led me to a working theme. Re: Installing XFCE Themes - Valtam - 11-24-2014 Themes in linux are very hit and miss. It's a matter of perseverance until you find one that both works, and you like ![]() Re: Installing XFCE Themes - technomancer - 01-25-2015 I had lots of trouble downloading then trying to make themes work from the site listed in the help manual. I have managed to get all the Themes that come with XFCE however, lots to choose from. Open -system, add/remove software(synaptic package manager), enter password, type xfce in the search box. It populates with all the packages relevant, even adds gtk theme support without all the hassle. I hope this helps everyone, better than chasing our tails installing stuff from the internet, xfce4-goodies is the package name. Re: Installing XFCE Themes - N4RPS - 01-25-2015 Hello! Thanks for the tip! That one is well worth frocking you a rep point for... 73 DE N4RPS Rob Re: Installing XFCE Themes - technomancer - 05-04-2016 (01-25-2015, 05:57 AM)technomancer link Wrote: I had lots of trouble downloading then trying to make themes work from the site listed in the help manual. Possible XFCE additions/options- http://xfce-look.org/ I am going to try this little app, http://xfce-look.org/content/show.php/Xfce-Theme-Manager?content=149647 I will see if/how it works. It would be a great way to simplify the theme issue we all have in Linux in general. So I have managed to get the install going, but needed automake1.5, it's not in repository.......I downloaded it and that wont even install because of dependencies that i can't resolve. (I will post terminal output if someone requests it) I am not sure what i am looking at when it errors, why it happens, or anything. This is definitely way beyond a simple .exe like in windows. I don’t understand why this is so complicated, just install the package so i can use it LOL So I will continue my experiments, but the theme manager hasn't been updated in a year. I will contact the developer and see if he is interested in getting this to work in LinuxLite. This theme manager would be invaluable for Windoze converts/refugees and simplify the entire linux experience. (*The first complaint i get from everyone is why is changing the theme so difficult and scattered.....i don't have a good answer. The second is- why this is so complicated, just install the package so i can use it. Yet again i have no answer. Even if both have an answer, there is no excuse....how can we convert people if simple things are so hard to do ? ) I know i am grossly generalizing, but on the whole- average windows users are not willing to go to these lengths to use software or change settings. i.e.- in windows, buy software, problem resolved.......usually LOL If anyone has tried this package let us know. ;D |
