Linux Lite Virtual Machines - Valtam - 10-15-2014

Linux Lite Virtual Machines are now available via Noobslab. Now you can use Linux Lite in a virtual machine without having to install it.

Available for both VirtualBox and VMWare: http://www.osboxes.org/linux-lite/

Hi just tried this in VirtualBox and it worked fine.

But why would anyone want to do this over a real install into a VM ?

Maybe I'm missing something ?

Cheers - Kurt

Convenience, and some people don't have the knowledge to do it themselves.

Re: Linux Lite Virtual Machines - Kurt - 10-15-2014

Fair point but it took me longer to work out how to install the virtual machine than to install myself Smile

Plus if you dont install yourself you never learn - not that LL is difficult to install.

Thanks but I got it working - my point was why ?

I was asking myself the same question.

My guess, to save time - when installing isn't the primary concern.

If I've ruined my current testing vbox image, don't have a backup, and need to get back testing ASAP, downloading a ready made image would be a timesaver.

For a fast OS evaluation, this skips iso download and installation. Good for beginners and/or those on slow internet connections.

Installing less beginner friendly distros, like Arch could be a timesaver.

Hi - But isn't the point of LL to show new users how easy it is to install and of course use.

If you were using it for developing - Hmm ok I see your point.

Thanks - Kurt

You probably know this anyway....
When I create a new VM, and it's all configured/set-up an working and "clean"
I create one "Snapshot" in the VM
If I break it, I remove that one "Snapshot" and I'm back to my original "clean" VM

Yeh I also make snapshots before I try something errr silly Smile

Sorry - I still dont really see the point of installing a virtual machine this way
